Quantum Technologies: Researchers at Different Career Stages

In quantum technologies, VTT is participating in the European Quantum Flagship (https://qt.eu/) and National Centre of Excellence – Quantum Technology Finland (QTF) (https://qtf.fi/).

We are looking for

Researchers to work in the fields of quantum and nano technologies, devices and systems, in different career stages, from post-graduate student to post-docs and senior researchers.

With us you will be responsible for R&D of quantum and nanotechnologies, ranging from design and fabrication of devices, to characterization and development of systems for applications. The work utilizes Micronova clean room in Otaniemi, the largest micro- and nanofabrication facility in Northern Europe (http://www.micronova.fi/nanofabrication_centre-002/micronova_nanofabrication_cleanroom/). Our existing technology platforms range from custom CMOS to superconductive electronics and silicon photonics with applications from biosensing to quantum information and quantum sensing. Depending on your background, your role will be tailored to the following responsibilities: device fabrication and process integration, device design and characterization, and/or device applications.

You will interact and collaborate with different staff members of VTT and with VTT‘s collaborators and customers. Your work will be especially linked to international projects and initiatives, for example, Quantum Technologies Flagship or other European level integrated actions. You may also get involved in the preparation and management of projects of your substance expertise. In a longer term, we expect you to contribute to the fields of quantum and nano technologies in a versatile manner.

We expect you to have experience in the fields of quantum and/or nano technologies and devices. You should have a PhD or MSc degree in physics or engineering (or related field). We expect you to have hands-on experience in cleanroom work, process integration, component design, and/or device characterization.

You should have experience in at least one of the following technologies:

  • Superconducting and/or solid-state quantum devices
  • Quantum phenomena and/or quantum technologies
  • Low-temperature experimental techniques
  • Photo/radiation detectors
  • CMOS or similar FET devices/systems

The following experience is not mandatory but considered a valuable asset:

  • Experience from working in/with the industry
  • Project management experience
  • RF, microwave or optical techniques
  • Simulation on material and device level
  • Electronics design

You are a team player with true ambition and passion for technology and research work. You take initiatives and responsibilities and have good interaction skills. You are able to combine theory with practice in a solution-oriented manner. You have good cooperation and networking skills and fluent written and oral communication in English.
