The Department of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Supply Chain Management (Security of Supply). We are specifically interested in applicants with research and teaching ability on security of supply. This includes work on comprehensive security, supply chain security, defence logistics, critical infrastructure, risk, and resilient supply chains. The position is in Helsinki from August 1, 2025, or earlier according to agreement.

The research activities of the Supply Chain Management and Social Responsibility group focus on:

- Supply chain risk, resilience and security
- Humanitarian logistics
- Circular and sustainable supply chains

We have a strong research climate reflected in a growing volume and range of research activities, including externally funded projects, publications in highly ranked academic journals, an active community of PhD researchers, and a wide range of societal impact activities.

Security of supply is a growing research focus in the group, focusing on comprehensive security, defence logistics, risk, and resilient supply chains. Security of supply ensures the uninterrupted availability of critical goods, services, and resources necessary for society, especially during crises or disruptions. Research in this field examines how to build resilient supply chains, mitigate risks, and ensure operational continuity under scenarios like geopolitical conflicts, natural disasters, cyberattacks, or pandemics. Applicants for this position might explore topics such as defence logistics, critical infrastructure protection, supply chain risk management, cross-sector collaboration to safeguard supply networks etc. The research is conducted in close collaboration with various organisations that are relevant to comprehensive security in Finland and the Nordics.

The subject hosts the HUMLOG Institute, a joined research institute between Hanken and the Finnish Defence University, which conducts high-quality research on humanitarian logistics and supply chain management with and for UN agencies, Red Cross / Red Crescent societies, and other humanitarian organisations.

The faculty has published in leading journals, such as Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Production and Operations Management, Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, Research Policy, and Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Our goal is to conduct high quality academic research with corporate and societal relevance.

The teaching in our subject focuses on the three core areas mentioned above. At Hanken, the goal is to educate responsible professionals for the global economy and changing society. Requirements

The applicants must have a doctoral degree in supply chain management or a related field. The applicants will be reviewed based on their research, teaching, institutional service, and societal impact. When evaluating the applicants' qualifications, the main focus will be on the potential to conduct high quality scientific research in the core research areas of supply chain management and social responsibility, particularly in security of supply, defence logistics and risk, and resilient supply chains, the potential to provide high-quality teaching in these core areas, as well as the ability to obtain external research funding.

Applicants are required to have fluent command of English. Swedish language skills are considered a merit, albeit not mandatory. Hanken supports international faculty in learning the Swedish language.

Academic staff at Hanken are expected to carry out and supervise scientific research, obtain external funding, provide high-quality academic teaching, closely follow the advances of their field, and participate in service to Hanken, the academic community, and society.

Applicants should either hold or be willing to obtain Finnish security clearance as part of this job role are likely to include work relevant to national security and thus necessitate security clearance vetting.

The full-time position has an annual working time of 1612 hours. During the academic year, it is expected that a minimum average of three days per week is spent at the office in Helsinki to actively contribute to the research and teaching environment. Hanken offers relocation support for tenure track professors coming outside Finland and expects full-time academic employees to reside and work in Finland. Teaching tasks are allocated based on the curriculum needs of the subject and by considering relevant own expertise.

Salary #_msocom_1and other benefits

The salary is based on the university salary system in Finland#_msocom_2. The exact salary level depends on qualifications and performance. At the assistant professor level, the annual salary #_msocom_3range starts from around 59.000 euros (including holiday bonus). Depending on the candidate's qualifications (research, teaching, societal impact and/or activity in the scientific community), the salary level can be higher. In addition, the employment includes occupational h#_msocom_4ealthcare as well as pension contributions. Hanken will support the Assistant Professor with a start-up research budget. Additional research, travel and teaching development grants can be applied for. Hanken rewards excellence in research and teaching.
