We are looking for a Senior Material Technology and Sustainability Engineer to join our global R&D team at IEC LV Motors in Vaasa. In this role you will proactively manage processes and tools towards new materials, manufacturing methods and stay on top of global trends related to sustainability within ABB IEC LV Motors. You will proactively collaborate and share your results with internal ABB stakeholders as well as external academic or industrial partners. Additionally, you will support in questions and concerns about material compliance and sustainability in our motors.

You will be mainly accountable for:
- Material Technology: Working with various activities in technology and product development related to metals and polymers. With responsibility in areas like casting, machining, welding and additive manufacturing methods.
- Sustainability: In cooperation with Global Sustainability Manager, you will participate in activities related to product sustainability, environmental impact, product circularity, material compliance with hazardous substances, etc. As a result, Life-cycle assessments (LCA), Environmental Product Declarations (EDP) and Product environmental footprints (PEF) will be compiled.
Qualifications for the role:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in material technology or similar engineering discipline
- Previous experience (more than 3 years) of applied research and technology development in the areas of materials and manufacturing technologies, primarily metals.
- Strong knowledge in fundamentals of material science & technology in metals and metallurgy
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing methods e.g. casting, machining, welding, additive manufacturing, metallic/polymer coatings, surface engineering.
- Experience in design to manufacturing and simulations (Ansys, CAD, FEM etc.)
- Previous experience and knowledge with polymer technologies is considered an advantage.
- Practical experience of performing Life cycle analysis, preferably using commercial tools e.g. SimaPro and experience of generating EPDs for products.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken with good presentation and reporting abilities
- Proactive learner and agile collaborator with strong team spirit as well as readiness to take initiative to deliver results within agreed deadlines
