The Finnish Judo Association is seeking coaches

The Finnish Judo Association is developing its coaching system to meet the ambitious strategic goals of the upcoming Olympiad and is now seeking coaches for fixed-term positions.

The Finnish Judo Association has centralized training system in Helsinki at the Olympic Training Center Urhea, which is also the main workplace for all coaches.

Coaches are hired under a co-operation agreement (Finnish Judo Federation, Olympic Committee, and possibly other parties). Support decisions for salary funding are made yearly. Coaches are selected for the program primarily for a four-year term for the next Olympiad (2025-2028), but the review will be conducted annually as funding and other matters are clarified. The funding for the first year will be determined at the beginning of December 2024.

Job Description

As a coach for the Finnish Judo Association, you will be responsible for the long-term planning, implementing and monitoring of daily training for each age group. All tasks require travel both domestically and internationally.

Successfully fulfilling the coach's responsibilities requires strong expertise in the Judo, an understanding of the demands of high-performance sports, good organizational and teamwork skills, and the ability to respond quickly to changing situations.

A desire for continuous learning and self-development are important qualities in this job. Good collaboration and communication skills are essential.

You will need basic computer skills in the job. The primary working language in the coaching team of the Finnish Judo Association is English.

Cadet (U18) Coach:
In this role, you will be responsible for the development, planning, and implementation of Cadets coaching, judo coaching at Sports High School connected to Urhea Olympic Training Center and coordinating national coaching activities for under 15 years old together with volunteer coaches. Participation in the national elementary school training camps is part of the role.

Junior (U21) Coach:
In this role, you will be responsible for the development of national coaching for Junior age group as well as daily coaching at Urhea in Helsinki. You will work continuously with other coaches and be aware of the athlete potential in Finland.

Coach for U23 age group:
In this role, you will be responsible for coaching the under 23 age group during an important transition phase to adult elite level, working closely with the head coach Rok Draksic.

The Association supports the diverse activities of member clubs and the people involved in them in the field of judo and represents Finnish member clubs in national and international activities. The purpose of the Finnish Judo Association is to develop judo and promote Finnish competitive and high-performance judo. The foundation of the Association's activities is based on ethical values of judo, principles of fair play, and gender equality. The annual budget of the Federation is approximately 1 million euros, and there are about 120 member clubs.
