Your role and responsibilities:
We are looking for a Project Lead Engineer to join our team at ABB Oy, Marine & Ports division in Vuosaari, Helsinki. In this role, you will be responsible for leading engineering activities within the Azipod® delivery project, in local business line Large Azipod®, Marine & Ports division in Helsinki. As an Azipod® Lead Engineer you will work in a close cooperation with project manager, engineering team, purchasing, production, suppliers and customers.

Azipod® propulsion is a gearless steerable propulsion system where the electric drive motor is in a submerged pod outside the ship hull. Azipod® units can rotate 360 degrees to increase manoeuvrability, operating efficiency, safety and passenger comfort.

This position reports to Engineering Manager.

You will be mainly accountable for:
- Leading engineering activities within the Azipod® delivery project from technical sales handover to ship delivery
- Scheduling of project engineering according to agreed milestones in customer contract
- Follow-up and reporting of the project engineering progress
- Coordinating engineering resource requirements to the management
- Technical responsibility within Azipod® delivery project
- Ensuring technical compliance to customer contract and class requirements
- Design verification and ensuring manufacturability of the products
- Approving technical documentation
- Leading and approving technical solutions and quality non-conformities
- Ensuring interfaces with other ship systems
- Communicating technical matters with customers and the classification society
- Providing technical support during installation and commissioning

Qualifications for the role:
- At least 2 years of experience in demanding mechanical or electrical engineering or technical project management
- Self-management skills and willingness to take responsibility and ownership
- Customer-oriented mindset with a sense of urgency
- Curiosity and desire to learn about new technologies
- A collaborative, solution-oriented approach with good written and spoken communication skills in English. Finnish is considered as advantage.
- A strong focus on quality, safe work practices and dedication to following health and safety guidelines
- B.Sc. or M.Sc degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience in the marine industry, electric power transmission, ship automation and cooperation with classification societies are seen as advantage
- Basic knowledge of ERP (e.g. SAP), PLM (Teamcenter) and common office software are seen as advantage
- Willingness to travel internationally occasionally
