We are a very small tour company in Utsjoki. We have been established 10 years. Our customers fly into Ivalo airport when you would be required to meet them and drive them two hours back up to Utsjoki where they stay in their own cottages for a week. In the mornings you will drive them to any day time activities they choose, such as husky sledding, snowmobiling, etc. We actually have our own snowmobiles so we will train you up on them too. In the evening at 8pm, you will pick them up and go aurora chasing (weather depending) for 3-4 hours. If it is clear skies at the cottages we can just watch the northern lights from our watchtower.

Our customers come from all over the world, we have had about 80 nationalities so far. English is the working language and is the only language you require, but any more languages (especially European languages) would be beneficial. Working hours are about 37.5 hours per week, sometimes much less if the weather is nice and we don't have to drive far to find northern lights.

You need at least a B driving license, but a D1 license so you can drive 17 seat minibus would be even better. If you get the job you could look into getting that license upgrade. We have various sized minibus, some 9 seats which you can drive on car license, but any more passengers than that you need D1 license so it is very useful to have.

You will live in a nice warm shared house in Utsjoki village with another guide. This is of course rent free.
You don't need any tour guide experience, but any experience of travelling, driving or customer service facing rolls would be advantageous. Living here for 5 months is a big commitment, so any experience of living abroad is advantageous also.

As you will be living in the frozen north for 5 months, warm clothing and boots will be provided for you to do your job, so don't worry about the cold. You do have to like snow to do this job, because Utsjoki is one of the snowiest places in Finland and there is a lot of it :)

Pay is €750 week and our season is usually 20 weeks long. So you can earn €15,000 over the winter. It's ideal if you like to travel in the summer or you have a seasonal job in the summer too.

Age is not a factor. Previous guides have been in their 40's, 50's and 60's. So don't think it's a young persons job, I hire the right people based on their life experiences, not based on their age. So you are welcome to apply whether you are 25 or 55.

Applicants can be any nationality, whether living in Finland already or whether you live in other country. All are welcome.

If you are interested, send your CV and a cover letter to jobs@aurora-service.eu.

See you in Lapland!
Tony
