We are seeking a Product Development Engineer for the development of metal-coated steels at our Hämeenlinna site. Join a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to safety and continuous improvement. The keys to success in this role include responsibility, precision, patience, collaboration, curiosity, and a passion for learning.

Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining a journey. A journey that we believe is essential for the sustainability of this planet. Steel has been one of the most important materials for developing our society and it will continue to be so. In the roofs over our heads, in the bridges connecting our cities and in the cars of tomorrow. At SSAB we are proud of our history and leadership in high-strength steel. But we are also aware that the production of steel is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases in the world. That has to change. That is why we have developed the world's first fossil free steel production and has committed to becoming largely fossil-free by around 2030. As part of SSAB you will be instrumental in realizing this goal and push for the green transformation of the whole steel industry.

About the position
As a member of our team of seven professionals, you will contribute to the development of metal-coated steel products. While each team member typically manages their own projects, collaboration is key, and projects often overlap. Our product development team works closely with our R&D laboratory, which is equipped with comprehensive research equipment. Skilled laboratory staff assist with sample preparation and testing. We actively collaborate with production, product design, process development, universities, and research institutes. While our focus has traditionally been on automotive high-strength steels (3rd gen. AHSS), development of fossil-free steel production is rapidly becoming a significant part of our work. We value proactive individuals who can bring their own ideas to the table while also being good listeners and communicators.

Main responsibilities
- Contributing in the development of fossil-free steels
- Conducting research on next-generation automotive high-strength steels
- Utilizing and analyzing collected process data for product development work
- Participating in projects as either a leader or an expert

About You
- Studies in physical metallurgy and a suitable university degree, e.g. in materials or mechanical engineering
- Good spoken and written skills in English and ability to communicate in Finnish
- Ability and willingness to learn new IT systems
- Strong collaborative and problem solving skills

We will support your growth by providing a safe and friendly workplace that contributes to work-life balance. If you set out to achieve it, at SSAB you will have the possibility of broadening your skills and grow within your field or beyond.
