METSÄ SPRING - An Innovation Company
Metsä Group founded Metsä Spring Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary in May 2018. The new innovation company will, together with partner organisations, try to identify and develop new business opportunities within sustainable forest-based bioeconomy and circular economy. More specifically, Metsä Spring is looking for business ideas that are one final step from business proof-of-concept. To reach the proof-of-concept state, Metsä Spring is willing to invest both financial as well as other resources into the selected cases.
The cases of interest can be aiming at both manufacturing-based, as well as service-based businesses (e.g. new digital solutions). Furthermore, the cases should be such that they would, if successful, potentially be increasing the value for Metsä Group’s stakeholders. In the long run, Metsä Spring, as a company, wants to become the preferred partner in the development of new business opportunities within the forest-based bioeconomy and circular economy.

To build up and strengthen the innovation-driven activities of Metsä Spring, the CEO is now looking for a
to the office of Metsä Spring located in the heart of the internationally-acknowledged Otaniemi innovation campus in Espoo, Finland. Although backed up by a large company, Metsä Spring is itself in an early start-up phase and has just begun to build its organisation and the needed processes.
The Wingman will have a central role in promoting Metsä Spring in Finland and abroad, as well as in identifying and further developing the potential business ideas. He/She, as the third employee of Metsä Spring, will also have a crucial role in building up the internal processes of the new company. More specifically, whilst some of the processes and systems will be adopted from the parent company, other processes and ways-of-working must be developed from scratch.
The Wingman´s responsibilities also include due diligence of possible investment objects and evaluating their worth and potential for growth. Furthermore, the responsibilities also include identifying potential exit strategies, creating the selection criteria to be used and consulting in financing issues. Notably, it is naturally not expected that the he/she is a top expert in all the fields mentioned above. Hence, further recruitments will be considered, so that the needed competences are available within Metsä Spring in due time.
