VTT Summer Internships 2019: Research Trainee, Severe accidents
Do you want to join our Reactor Analysis team, which is a part of VTT’s Nuclear Safety Research Area? Our team covers nuclear safety related topics including reactor dynamics, nuclear fuel behaviour, severe accidents, and radioactive dispersion and dose assessment.
With us you will be responsible for
We are looking for a summer trainee for our severe accidents group. Our group does safety analyses for VVER, PWR and BWR power plants and analyses different phenomena related to severe nuclear reactor accidents more thoroughly. Work will focus on utilizing CFD in analysing core melt behaviour.
The main responsibily is developing a CFD model for analysing the heat transfer in a complex configuration including a volumetrically heated melt pool with the help of our experts.
We expect you to have
• Master student in engineering physics, physics, nuclear energy or power plant engineering
• Basic knowledge of nuclear power plants
• Experience from CFD tools
• Basic object-oriented programming skills
We hope that you are interested in working in the nuclear energy research. Strong mathematical background is appreciated, and applicable fields of study include engineering physics, physics, nuclear energy, and power plant engineering. The focus of the work will be on understanding and evaluating the models and the phenomena they are describing.
As a person you are
• Do not hesitate to learn new and complicated things
We a looking for a person, who wants to work with scientists with different length of work experience. We hope that you do not hesitate to tackle even to complicated technical things.
At VTT, we believe that our impact is built on scientific and technological excellence in all our work. Our people is the core of the next generation VTT. Our personnel’s wellbeing and competence development are key priorities. You will be a part of a creative and international working environment. We offer versatile, independent and challenging tasks and the needed support and coaching.
We offer a great opportunity to develop technological competences in Nuclear Safety area together with VTT´s top experts. In our group you can learn much about behavior of nuclear power plants and practical safety analyses. It is possible to do special assignment.
