Veterinarian, animal welfare officer
Description of position:
We are looking for an innovative, scientifically orientated veterinarian to join Orion Pharma R&D Discovery PK/PD team in Turku.
In this position, your main responsibilities will include veterinary as well as animal welfare officer tasks. As an animal welfare officer, you are responsible to ensure that animals are maintained and studies performed according to legislation and Orion principles of bioethics. There is also a possibility to be heavily involved in research in all our therapy areas. We especially value experience and deeper understanding in pharmacology, soft tissue surgery as well as in anesthesia and pain alleviation.
You will work closely with a wide group of scientists and research associates as well as animal welfare personnel.
Description of unit:
Discovery PK/PD unit is part of Orion Global Translational Pharmacology and Safety Sciences with facilities in Turku. The organization is responsible for the preclinical PK/PD assessment of new drug candidates during various stages of the drug discovery and development process. The function designs and executes pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic as well as safety and toxicology studies both in our own facilities and in collaboration with contract research organizations. We support research and development projects at all Orion’s therapy areas.

Requirements: We are looking for a certified veterinarian with already a few years of experience but also lot of fresh ideas in mind - not forgetting the energy to implement them.
- Experience in soft tissue surgery ,anesthesia and pain alleviation
- Keen understanding of experimental design, underlying scientific principles and ability to rigorously analyze and interpret results
- Excellent networking, presentation and communication skills in English and in Finnish with high impact
- Enthusiastic, innovative and science-oriented mindset
- Prior experience in drug discovery, laboratory animals or exotic pets are considered as advantages
- Knowledge in microbiology, in vitro models and molecular biology are also considered as advantages
