University lecturer (power electronics)
The position is placed in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University. The Electrical Engineering Unit of the faculty is a hub of expertise with roughly 150 faculty and staff members, of which 16 professors and 7 tenure track professors. We confer about 100 master’s degrees and 12-15 doctoral degrees on an annual basis. Our teaching and research activities are based on a profound understanding of electrical and electromagnetic phenomena and their modelling and applications. We work in close collaboration with several industrial partners and maintain an active presence in the international scientific community. We also offer an excellent research infrastructure with state-of-the-art laboratories.
Our areas of expertise are:
- electronics and embedded systems
- wireless communications and communication networks
- radio positioning and sensing
- electrical energy engineering and smart grids
- power electronics and electromechanics
Specifically, our main focus in power electronics has been on the modeling and analysis of grid-connected converters, battery systems, and modern control methods for electrical drives and power electronic converters.
We are seeking highly motivated and accomplished applicants for teaching in the field of power electronics, including power electronic converters, power semiconductor devices and electrical drives. We especially welcome applicants who can complement our current teaching and research profile. Your background is taken into consideration in the assignment of the specific teaching areas.
Your primary role is to participate in planning and execution of the curriculum in collaboration within the unit. You are expected to plan, prepare and organize teaching, supervise BSc and MSc theses and act as a tutor for the students. You will work in a multidisciplinary and international environment where the interest in developing teaching methods and students’ learning experience are highly appreciated. We have modern teaching and research facilities and we encourage employees to actively seek professional growth, for example, by attending pedagogical training courses available at the University. Although the position is teaching oriented, participation in research is also supported and encouraged.
For the university lecturer position we require:
- applicable doctoral degree
- track record of independent scholarly activity
- ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
- interest for teaching and learnings of students
- studies in university pedagogy or equivalent skills
- understanding of industry needs
- capability to collaborate within teaching and research personnel and industry
- interest for continuous curriculum and pedagogical enhancement
The position will be filled on a permanent basis, commencing in September 2020 or as mutually agreed. Appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a trial period of 6 months.
The salary is based on job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. Typical starting salary will be from €4,000 to €4,600/month. A higher salary may be agreed upon based on the successful candidate’s experience and/or performance.
