Technology Manager, Metsä Spring
Metsä Group

Alkuperäinen julkaisupäivä 2.10.2020

We are now looking for a creative

to take part in the planning and development of the production process related to Metsä Spring’s 3D fibre product project.

Metsä Spring and Valmet continue the development collaboration related to 3D fibre products and hence, invest jointly in a new R&D project. In the context of this project, a greenfield pilot plant will be built on Metsä Group’s industrial site in Äänekoski, Finland. The technology applied in the pilot plant converts wet wood pulp into final 3D packages without any intermediate steps. In other words, the new environmentally-friendly 3D fibre products are ready to be shipped to end customers as such.

The construction of the pilot plant begins in the autumn of 2020 and the pilot plant is expected to be ready for operation by the end of 2021. When operational, the pilot plant (project) will employ about 10 persons. The pilot plant will be used for the continued development of both the manufacturing technology and the 3D fibre product. If the pilot plant phase validates the concept as sound, the next step would be the construction of a commercial factory in the following years. Such a factory would be built in Finland.

Your role in the future Metsä

Your tasks in the new R&D project are versatile. In short, your main goal is, from the Metsä perspective, to make sure that an industrially-feasible and cost-competitive production process is developed in collaboration with Valmet. More specifically, you collaborate closely with Valmet’s experts, the investment project team and experts from other partner organisations in order to develop, build and operate the first production line (pilot plant phase) and thus, get the first test products into the market for market testing.

Importantly, although the Technology Manager will also supervise the pilot plant operators, the role in question requires a person, who is also able and willing to do many of the development and planning tasks herself/himself. In other words, we are looking for a hands-on technical expert, who can lead the team and operations in our pilot plant.

The position is located in Äänekoski, Finland, especially when the pilot plant is operational.

What do we expect from you?

In this position the following competences are beneficial:

  • understanding of lean production processes;
  • occupational safety (especially from process industry);
  • process automation; and
  • means to develop production processes with minimal downtime that come with cost-efficient maintenance and good availability to parts and support.

We also value your ability to develop a process entity that is fitting to Metsä Group’s operations from a mill integrate perspective (process control systems, quality reporting, connections and inputs). Moreover, in this role, you need to be able to manage large entities and learn new things quickly. You have a solid practical and technical know-how, and you also have an ability to use partners and networks in challenging situations. Your English is at good level, Finnish is optional but beneficial. You obviously possess a relevant Master’s degree.
