We are looking for an experienced and development oriented
Sustainability Manager
to join our Business Development & Transformation team in Helsinki HQ.
In this role you will work to ensure that Marimekko’s products are manufactured in accordance with Marimekko values and responsible sourcing principles. You will maintain and develop Marimekko’s due diligence system related to human rights, social responsibility and environment, and develop Marimekko’s supply chain transparency.
In addition, you will be actively managing and developing Marimekko’s sustainability agenda and support in the implementation of our sustainability strategy.
You will collaborate across teams to manage our cross-functional sustainability journey and related internal processes. You will work as a team with other sustainability managers as well as communication experts. You will also work closely especially with Marimekko’s supply chain organization as well as support the design and product development teams.
This is a full-time and permanent position in which you will report to the Chief Business Development Officer. The role will be based at the Marimekko headquarters in Helsinki. Stockholm and Copenhagen can be also considered as a base for the role (requires some commuting to Helsinki).
Main responsibilities:
- Contribute to Marimekko sustainability strategy work as a key sustainability expert
- Ensure and advance both social and environmental responsibility in our supply chain e.g. by eveloping Marimekko’s due diligence system and relevant tools & guidelines to ensure sustainable sourcing (e.g. Supplier Code of Conduct and Product Policy updates and implementation)
- developing Marimekko’s human rights and environmental due diligence processes
- managing supplier audits & corrective actions and supplier questionnaires, and
- acting as one of the contact points for our Supply chain organization and sourcing network
- Follow up the development of sustainability reporting and other relevant regulation as well as drive development projects related to these
- Manage and execute sustainability reporting (rotating reporting related responsibilities within the team)
- Manage Marimekko’s sustainability related material certificate systems
- Support communications and marketing teams in sustainability communication (e.g. Marimekko.com, corporate website on sustainability as well as consumer, media, investor and NGO inquiries)
- Produce relevant and understandable analytics to support our decision-making
In order to succeed in the role, you have:
- a relevant Master’s degree
- at least 5 years’ experience in the field of sustainability management in a similar senior role (especially in the human rights and supply chain context) – ideally within an international consumer/retail/brand company or within a sustainability consulting
- ideally experience from sustainability communications
- industry and relevant material knowledge (especially related to textiles) - seen as an advantage
- environmental expertise - seen as an advantage
- strong analytical skills (incl. Excel) with ability to present data and insights effectively
- strong project management and communication skills
- ability to make things happen in good spirit by inspiring and getting everyone on board
- ability to work under pressure and in a flexible manner
