Summer Trainee, Human Rights

The Summer Trainee positions at Neste are now open for applications! We are looking for a trainee to join our Human Rights team for the summer.

You will contribute to transforming the way of doing business in line with our new human rights ambition to create a more equitable and inclusive value chain by 2030, in which everyone works with dignity. You will have the opportunity to take on challenging assignments, gain experience in the field of business and human rights, and develop transferable skills.

Your responsibilities for the summer job

In your role, you will:

• Conduct desk-based research to review and assess human rights risks related to supply chains at Neste, using country-risk reports and other external information.
• Identify areas of improvement for Neste’s performance on major external human rights assessments and compile a data catalogue of all submitted human rights data.
• Provide general support to the human rights team with daily tasks, for example, compile summaries of Neste’s Human Rights Impact Assessments, review different business initiatives for promoting children’s access to education, compare best practices for human rights reporting on diversity and inclusion.

In your daily tasks, you get to work closely with our human rights specialists, participate in various projects, and have the chance to work with an international team of sustainability professionals. You will learn about social impact, social responsibility, and what business and human rights means in practice, and have a chance to collaborate with other teams at Neste to ensure our high standards for human rights are met.

Additionally, we see that the best combination of experiences, skills and background in this position would be:

• University studies (3rd year +) in a business and human-rights related field e.g. Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainable Supply Chains, Political Science, International Relations, Law, Human Geography, etc.
• Prior experience working/interning for a company/organization (e.g. NGO, IGO) on human rights/social issues focused projects is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability for researching and analyzing issues broadly-related to topics in business and human rights (e.g. human rights risks in supply chains, case studies on social responsibility, UNGPs, etc.)
• Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written, with ability to compose detailed reports using clear, concise, business English.
• Ability to exercise tact and discretion when handling sensitive and/or confidential matters

Your salary will be determined based on the complexity of the role and the number of course credits you have from your studies.

The planned time period of the traineeship is four consecutive months between May and September, depending on your availability.

The summer job recruitment process may include a video interview at the pre-selection stage and – if you are invited to participate further in the selection procedure – a face-to face interview in Espoo. Depending on the situations, some of these may be arranged virtually.
