We are now looking for a R&D Specialist, Dissolving Pulp
Pulp Competence Centre (PCC) is an expert unit of Stora Enso that supports the chemical pulp mills and the Innovation organization with R&D and operational improvement services. Our mission is to facilitate pulp business and production units’ competitiveness and to develop biomass fractionation and separation technologies for new products. The PCC R&D team works in close cooperation with the mills, pulp sales/TCS and innovation and performs mill trials, pilot tests, simulations and laboratory studies as part of our offering. The R&D Team has today appr. 50 full-time employees and we are based in Imatra, Finland, in Karlstad and Stockholm, Sweden and in Danville, VA USA.
You will join the PCC R&D Mill Improvements team in the Pulp Product Development area and focus fully on dissolving pulp development work. Your main tasks include development of dissolving pulp analytics, characterization and pulp quality development according to the customer needs. You will also participate in long-term R&D and Innovation activities to seek for opportunities in new end-uses, cellulose dissolution and fibre regeneration areas. You will give specific support to technical customer service and sales is given whenever needed. The work will be performed in close cooperation with Enocell Pulp Mill, Innovation and other related teams. The Pulp Laboratory in Imatra will be your key location for the pulp analytics development.
You must have deep theoretical understanding of cellulose chemistry, chemical modifications and cellulose dissolution to be qualified for this position. Good knowledge of viscose or other fibre regeneration processes and unit operations is a great benefit. Additionally you need to know the quality demands and the role of dissolving pulp in such processes. Experience in developing or running dissolving pulp reactivity tests will be highly appreciated.
You have a suitable academic education in organic chemistry or other relevant area. PhD and post-graduate degrees are favored as the educational criteria. You must have more than 5 years working experience in the industry or university preferably in cellulose area. You have good skills and knowledge of laboratory work and routines.
