Form of employment: Full time, Regular
Locations: Espoo
Job area: Microelectronics
Applications by October 21, 2019

We are looking for experienced researchers to work with 2D materials integration for applications in photonics and sensors, possibly including quantum devices and systems.

With us you will be responsible for R&D of solid-state devices and related systems for sensing and ICT, with focus on 2D materials in integrated photonics for applications in telecommunication, including radio-over-fiber (mm-wave), optical sensing (from visible to IR and THz) and quantum computing. The work will be based on our existing technology platforms that range from custom CMOS to silicon photonics and superconductive electronics, and with application fields from biosensing to 5G and quantum information. The work utilizes Micronova clean room in Otaniemi, the largest micro- and nanofabrication facility in the Northern Europe.

You will interact and collaborate with different staff members and teams at VTT and with VTT‘s collaborators and customers. Your work will be linked to international projects and initiatives, like for example the Graphene Flagship or Quantum Technologies Flagship, or other European level integrated actions. You may also get involved in the preparation and management of projects of your substance expertise.

We expect you to have

experience and/or solid understanding in integrated photonics, high speed electronics, electromagnetic radiation from visible to THz and light-matter interactions. You should have a PhD or MSc degree in physics (or related field). We expect you to have hands-on experience in cleanroom work, process integration, component design, and/or device characterization. Experience in at least one of the following technologies is considered to be a relevant asset:

  • CMOS or similar FET devices/systems
  • High speed electronics
  • 2D material based devices
  • Integrated photonics
  • Photodetectors
  • Superconductive devices

The following experience is not mandatory but valuable asset:

  • Working in/with the industry
  • Project management

As a person you are a team player with true ambition and passion for technology and research work. You take initiatives and responsibilities and have good interaction skills. You are able to combine theory with practise in a solution-oriented manner. You have good cooperation and networking skills and fluent written and oral communication in English.

We offer a creative and international working environment with highly trained colleagues and state-of-the-art research infrastructures. At VTT you can also have flexible working hours, good personal development prospects and the benefits of a large employer. With us, you will be building bridges from basic and applied research to the commercial exploitation.
