VTT Business area Solutions for Natural Resources and Environment promotes bio-economy and sustainable use of natural resources as well as solutions to realize circular economy. We focus on creating impact to our customers and society at large based on our scientific and technological excellence. We carry out applied research on industrial biotechnology, food solutions, biomass processing and bio-based products, sustainable chemistry and low-carbon energy.

Industrial Synthesis and Catalysis-research team further focuses on development of industrially viable chemical technologies to generate sustainable fuels and chemicals from renewables and side streams. We apply catalyst development, reactor techniques as well as organic and polymer synthesis technologies and we have excellent facilities for up-scaling and piloting of our product and process innovations.

We are now looking for 1 to 3 Senior or Principal Scientist(s) to focus on turning of chemistry into business.

With us you will be responsible for

You have a key role in building and developing VTT chemistry for the future. Your main responsibilities are to innovate and develop novel and commercially viable chemical product and technology solutions, to actively seek new emerging customers (especially international) and participate actively in selling process to selected customer groups and industrial value-chains. We expect you to transform different stakeholders’ needs (e.g. industry, European Commission work program call texts) into ‘living’ consortia and to manage larger projects under strict schedules and agreed targets.

We expect you to have

  • University degree at Master´s or PhD level in a relevant field e.g. technical, organic, inorganic or polymer chemistry as preference.
  • Some relevant experience in chemical industry or research.
  • Some application development skills and proof of product-based thinking
  • Proven track record on chemical reaction engineering, catalyst testing and processing design or on material science related to organic or polymer chemistry
  • Excellent communication, presentation and networking skills and fluent command of English.
