Senior Bioprocess Engineer

We are looking for a

Senior Bioprocess Engineer

for a permanent position in our Microbial Technology team in R&D Rajamäki, Finland. You are a key player in getting enzyme production processes developed, finetuned and ready for transfer to the on-site production facility.  Our business is growing and to ensure that this growth continues, we want you to help strengthening and expanding our bioprocess technology team.

The role

You are responsible for developing and scaling up fermentation and downstream processes in product development projects, and for transferring them to production together with Manufacturing. The main tasks and responsibilities in this role are:

• Planning skillfully and precisely the research and pilot scale microbial cultivations and downstream experiments to develop an optimized production process
• Adhering to agreed standards and HSE practices to ensure high quality and safety at work, constantly looking for improvement possibilities
• Supervising the cultivation experiments, carefully analyzing, interpreting, and reporting the results within the project team and R&D community.
• Diligently pursuing and delivering on agreed research and development goals
• Maintaining, developing and describing R&D methods and protocols
• Collaborating closely and instructing the operators and technicians

You will work closely together with the rest of the Microbial Technology team and with different project teams. Effective communication within and across departments is crucial to achieve set goals and deliver successful outcome.

About You

You are results-oriented and able to understand the big picture to meet commercial priorities. You also have a continuous improvement mindset, a can-do attitude, and you are willing and capable of executing all the experiments yourself when needed. You have good teamwork skills and communication skills inside and outside the organisation. We appreciate a high level of responsibility and accountability, and willingness to expand scientific knowledge.

Your key qualities include:

• Master’s educational degree in Engineering or Science in the field of bioprocess technology, with a solid understanding of techniques in the field (biological systems and process technology)
• Technical hands-on skills with high working standards
• Profound understanding of biotechnological production processes (fermentation and downstream processing) and their upscaling, preferably in enzyme production
• Several years of experience of working with fungal fermentations at multi-litre scale, preferably with Trichoderma. Knowledge of other microbial platforms is an asset
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of Finnish is an asset
