WHAT WOULD YOU GET TO DO AS SENIOR BACKEND DEVELOPER AT OP?

At OP Financial Group, agile teams have a great deal of both freedom and responsibility in finding the best ways to support our customers. In our Payment Service team (a part of the Cash Flow and Working Capital Tribe), we develop the Checkout card payment service. We specialize in card payment handling under the PCIS, which means that all our development actions and processes are a subject to strict security measures.

You would be the third developer member of our experienced team. For the most part, you would get to develop our payment services’ backend solutions as well as their data processing and handling. Our codebase is written in Scala. There are also some minor UI parts to our service where we use JavaScript and TypeScript. We do deal with some older protocols as well that come with the card payment service infrastructure and card issuers. Our ways of work are aligned with DevOps, and we test our code ourselves. Basically, all our team members share the responsibility over the application architecture.

We warmly welcome diverse software development backgrounds and having an agile DevOps mindset in the Payment Service team. It is, of course, a lot easier for you to start in this position, if you have been working with payment card services previously. If you feel like you would like to embark on new challenges with other experienced software development specialists and work in a growing business area, this might be a well-suited position for you. At OP, we want to foster a culture of taking initiative, proactivity, and maintaining a positive attitude also when something unexpected occurs – we hope that you find these ideas as fascinating as we do!

WHAT WE EXPECT:

  • Previous software development experience in an agile environment
  • Strong skills in Scala and an understanding of functional programming
  • At least basic knowledge in JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Interest in application architecture as well as testing
  • Having a DevOps mindset
  • Excellent communication skills in English

RECRUITMENT – HOW WE DO IT THE OP WAY:

Usually, recruitment processes in the OP Development & Technologies area include the following steps:

1. Application period

This is when we get the first impression of you. This is your chance to let us know about your experience, technical skillset, motivation, and career wishes, for example.

2. Short phone interview with the responsible IT Talent Acquisition Specialist

During this phone interview, we will cover areas such as your motivation, key points of your previous experience, and some practical matters related to this position.

3. First interview with the responsible Competence Lead (your future supervisor)

This interview is a chance for you to get a deeper understanding of the OP environment and key responsibilities and goals in the role you applied for. We will also discuss your ways of work and mindset a bit further.

4. Second interview with your closest future team members / stakeholders

This conversation might sometimes be combined with other steps in our recruitment process. Before embarking on a new role in a new organization, we want you to hear first-hand experiences and thoughts from those who know what working in this role actually means. Also, isn’t it nice to get to know your future colleagues already at this point?

5. Assessment interview with the responsible IT Talent Acquisition Specialist and Competence Lead

In this last interview phase, we will go through the results of your personal assessments (doing these assignments is quite smooth as you can do them at home whenever it suits you the best). We think that the most important part of this, however, is the discussion based on your results and how you perceive them.

6. Reference checks

The last phase of our recruitment process after which we are ready to finalize the job offer for you.

All in all, our recruitment processes take about one to two months (from the beginning of the application period until extending the job offer to you).

OP’s recruitments run normally despite the COVID-19 situation. We have replaced most of our face-to-face interviews with online interviews for the time being – your safety is our priority. Please note that we might proceed in the recruitment process already during the application period, so we hope to hear from you soon!

Before signing the final job contract, we will carry out credit reference and security clearance checks, drug tests, and an occupational healthcare survey.
