Scientist / senior scientist in electric vehicle systems and charging

We are looking for self-driven and motivated candidates to strengthen our activities in electric vehicles and their implementation in the transport and energy systems. A special focus area at the moment is technologies and solutions for smart charging and grid connection of electric vehicles in mobility and transportation. You have experience and specialisation in relevant fields such as electrical drives and powertrains, electrical engineering, automation, or transportation engineering. You will work on various applications and use cases such as electric buses, mobile machinery, trucks, utility vehicles, ships and ferries in both technology and implementation.

With us you will be responsible for

Based on your background and qualifications, you contribute in several of the following areas:

  • Standardisation, communication protocols and automation interfaces in smart charging of electric vehicles
  • Participation/leadership in research projects and assignments on electric powertrains and electric vehicles
  • Participation/leadership in research projects and assignments on electric vehicle systems in public transport, logistics and production/industrial systems
  • Design and implementation of electrified transportation systems including IoT, data and operation analytics, fleet and charging management and/or performance evaluation of vehicles
  • Combining experimental research with modelling and simulation in an analytical approach
  • Participation as lead or co-author in technical and scientific publications in the area
  • Building up, managing and coordinating projects and activities in your responsibility area
  • Active participation in customer work and stakeholder relations

We expect you to have

Strong ambition and capability to apply scientific results on real-world customer-serving solutions is essential. Ability to combine theory with practice will help you to work in solution-oriented manner. Understanding of electrical powertrains, electric vehicle and charging technologies as well as transit and transportation systems is a strong asset.

The ideal candidate for this position has several of the following qualifications:

  • A motivated and experienced researcher with at least a M.Sc. in relevant field, e.g., power electronics, automation and control, automotive or transportation engineering
  • Knowledge in and understanding of energy management, system analysis and system-level design in relevant vehicular, transport, process industry and/or energy system applications
  • Good skills in programming and in using modelling tools, for example: C/C++, python, Matlab, Simulink
  • Excellent interaction, communication and documentation skills and an interest to use them in both internal and external relations as well as technical and scientific reporting
  • Keen interest in active customer work a solution-oriented mind set towards developing customer relations, both industry and public sector
  • Interest in international projects and activities
  • Excellent skills in English, both oral and written. Good skills in Finnish are very desirable. Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.

Competence in the following areas is highly appreciated and therefore regarded as an asset:

  • Knowledge of the normative and standardisation framework related to electric vehicle charging and smart grid
  • Experience in electrical vehicles and their systemic implementation including charging infrastructures
  • Documented experience in project preparation, management and writing grant applications
