Scientist / senior scientist in battery systems and electrical powertrains

We are looking for motivated candidates to strengthen our activities in electric powertrains, battery technologies and energy storage systems. A special topic is research and development of battery and energy management systems for safety, optimal control and operation of battery systems and power sources in vehicular and stationary applications. You have experience and specialisation in relevant fields such as electrical drives, automation, powertrains and/or battery systems. You will work on various applications and use cases such as stationary energy storage, electric buses, mobile machinery, trucks, utility vehicles, ships and ferries in both technology and implementation.

With us you will be responsible for

Based on your background and qualifications, you contribute in several of the following areas:

  • Research and development on battery management systems as well as algorithms for estimation, prediction and optimisation
  • Applied research and development on electrical drives, powertrains and storage systems
  • Participation in projects and assignments on electric powertrains, batteries and electric vehicles
  • Design and optimisation of storage systems for mobile powertrains and stationary application including IoT, data and operation analytics
  • Combining experimental research with modelling and simulation in an analytical approach
  • Participation as lead or co-author in technical and scientific publications in the area
  • Building up, managing and coordinating projects and activities in your responsibility area
  • Active participation in customer work

We expect you to have

Strong ambition and capability to apply scientific results on real-world customer-serving solutions is essential. Ability to combine theory with practice will help you to work in solution-oriented manner. Understanding of electrical drives and powertrains, electric vehicle technologies, battery technologies and battery systems is a strong asset.

The ideal candidate for this position has several of the following qualifications:

  • A motivated researcher with at least a M.Sc. in relevant field, e.g., power electronics, electric drives, automation and control or automotive engineering
  • Experience in electrical drives, electrical powertrains including battery systems, electrical vehicles and/or stationary storage
  • Knowledge in and understanding of energy management, system analysis and system-level design in relevant vehicular, transport, process industry and/or energy system applications
  • Documented experience in project preparation, management and writing grant applications
  • Excellent interaction, communication and documentation skills and an interest to use them in both internal and external relations as well as technical and scientific reporting
  • Keen interest in active customer work a solution-oriented mind set towards developing customer relations, both industry and public sector
  • Good skills in programming and in using modelling tools, for example: C/C++, python, Matlab, Simulink
  • Interest in international projects and activities
  • Excellent skills in English, both oral and written. Good skills in Finnish are very desirable. Knowledge of additional languages such as German and Scandinavian languages is an asset.
