TradeRES is an EU funded research project, aiming to develop and test innovative electricity market designs that can meet society’s needs in a near 100% renewable energy system. Your work will contribute to better understanding the role of building stock heating demand in such future energy systems.
What would your responsibilities include?
Your main task will be working with EU-level data sources on building stock statistics and thermal properties, and process the data into a form usable by our pre-existing modelling tools. Furthermore, you’ll help validate the data by performing building stock heating demand simulations, and compare the results to national statistics. This will help expand the geographical scope of our previous analysis, as well as provide valuable data for the TradeRES project.
- Collecting data from EU and national sources on building stocks and their typical thermal properties
- Processing the building stock data into a form usable by our pre-existing modelling tools using Julia or Python
- Help validate the data by comparing the simulated heating/cooling demands with national statistics
Who we are looking for?
To succeed in the position, you would have following background and skills:
- Bachelor degree in energy systems or related
- Programming experience in Julia or Python
- Some experience with building energy performance calculations
- Good command of the English language.
You have good collaboration skills but are also able to work independently. You should be well-organised and be able to document your work as you go. You are willing to learn new things.
Why should you join us?
We promise meaningful tasks, where you get to take on real responsibility. You’ll be supported and encouraged every step of the way by your team, learning from the top experts in your field. And you’ll get to discover our community of over 2000 experts representing more than 40 nationalities working across cutting-edge fields of science and technology.
All VTT Summer of Changemakers traineeships are paid and the duration is usually between 3 and 6 months. The exact starting date can be discussed. Positions are filled as soon as we find the right candidate.
