Would you like to take a leading role in Systems engineering and simulation team as a Research team leader and coach the team for future opportunities? The team consists of about 20 highly competent researchers mostly in Espoo. The team´s research topics include:

  • industrial process simulation, focusing on applications of dynamic process simulation,
  • industrial operational research, focusing on decision making support using mathematical optimisation and data analytics,
  • model-driven engineering and industrial information management, focusing on model-based systems engineering, and
  • analysis of critical systems, focusing on safety critical process automation and its formal analysis.

We work in close co-operation with our customers especially in process industries and energy sector.

As a Research Team Leader, you have the overall responsibility of the research team´s activities. Your inspiring leadership helps the researchers continuously develop their competences and to achieve high-level results together with other VTT experts and external partners. As a member of the Data-driven solutions Research Area leadership team, you contribute to the success of the wider VTT community.

Main responsibilities:

  • Leadership and personnel management, including resource management, balancing workloads as well as well-being and work safety of the personnel.
  • Continuous competence development and coaching according to future customer needs.
  • Active contribution to the leadership of the research area.
  • Building up a balanced project portfolio, active contribution in sales and research project preparation together with substance node leaders and other key people. Development of offering, commercialisation and R&D activities in collaboration with others.
  • Fostering collaboration within VTT and with external partners. Building up networks with customers and top research partners.

The most important requirements are:

  • Understanding of relevant technologies and application areas both from scientific as well as our customers’ point of view.
  • Competences in leading people and strong motivation to lead. Experience of line manager and/or project manager role.
  • Wide networks to different kinds of stakeholders: research organisations, funding bodies and companies both in Finland and internationally.
  • Customer centric; sales and business development experience is regarded valuable.
  • University degree at Master’s or PhD level in a relevant field.
  • Fluent in English, fluent Finnish is regarded valuable.
