Field of Research of the Professorship:

Sensor research in the field of electronic sensor and measurement technologies including such areas as measurement physics and sensors, nano and microelectronics manufacturing processes and electronics integration as well as system design for industrial applications.

Sensor technologies are having a strong role in realizing the Internet-of-Things (IoT) visions and enabling the digitalization of industry. VTT applies sensor technologies to variety of application areas such as condition monitoring, environmental measurements, healthcare, space instrumentation and security.

We are looking for a visionary professor with strong interest in the development of novel sensors utilizing VTT Micronova manufacturing facilities http://www.micronova.fi/. The person should be familiar with industrial needs and requirements and able to combine multitechnological research to generate new sensor solutions. Experience in the electronic sensors and development of those must be shown.

We expect you to have

The Research Professor will be a dynamic individual who provides vision, leadership and guidance in the field of electronic sensors. The qualified candidate will work closely with multiple teams and experts. In addition, the candidate should be active in international networks and capable to build international research projects and lead them. The projects should result impact to both academia and industry. Beside scientific results, the outcomes should include IPR and new business innovations.

Qualifications for successful candidate include a doctoral degree in physics, electrical engineering or a closely associated field, high quality scientific competence, experience in supervising scientific research, ability to give high quality guidance and supervision of doctoral theses, as well as evidence of international collaboration in his/her field of research.

Issues taken into consideration include scientific publications and other research achievements. In addition, the applicant’s activity in the scientific community, practical familiarity within the field concerned, and success in acquiring domestic and international research funding, scientific work abroad and other international activities will be taken into consideration. Industrial experience and commercialization of scientific results are strong merits.
