University of Oulu, Kerttu Saalasti Institute (UO KSI) is an international research institute focusing on Operational Excellence of Micro-Enterprises in three research groups:
- Microentrepreneurship MicroENTRE,
- Future Manufacturing Technologies (FMT) and
- Regional Excellence, in which the new position is opened
UO KSI provides and mediates scientific knowledge, develops new technological innovations and acts as a reliable partner in international project collaborations. For strengthening its scientific profile in Regional Excellence, UO KSI announces a new position of Research Director for highly talented individuals who hold a doctoral degree (or higher) and have excellent potential for a successful scientific career:
Research Director, Regional Excellence
The emphasis in this position is on regional excellence. It is increasingly important to provide evidence-based knowledge of the regional factors, processes and/or mechanisms that enable dynamic growth and vitality at the micro-level. Prominent research areas related to this position include, but are not limited to, regional innovation systems and/or ecosystems in global context, regional growth strategies and smart specialization, regional development policies in the arctic, regional development in the European cohesion policy, and the role of universities and research infrastructures in regional innovation systems. An example of a unique, multi-disciplinary research infrastructure is the underground facilities of Callio Lab in Pyhäsalmi mine. Kerttu Saalasti Institute coordinates the collaboration of the Callio Lab research community.
The applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in an applicable research field (e.g. geography and regional studies, geoinformatics, regional policy, economics, industrial engineering and management, sociology and other related sciences and/or engineering research) a track record in scientific publications, a convincing research vision and plan in field of the position applied. Furthermore, the applicant should be able to lead a multidisciplinary research group, raise international funding, and contribute strategically into regional, national and international networks. Fluency in English and good command in Finnish is required.
The position is a fixed-term position for three years. The position is filled as of 1.8.2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. A trial period of six (6) months is applied in the position.
The salary will be based on the levels 6 – 7 of the demand level chart for teaching and research personnel of the salary system of Finnish Universities. In addition to the basic salary of the appropriate level, supplementary salary will be given for personal achievement and performance, the sum rising to a maximum of 50 % of the basic salary level for the position. The salary range is roughly 4500-5500 €/month.
The position is placed at the Kerttu Saalasti Institute in Nivala. There is a possibility to conduct part of the working time in in Oulu at the Linnanmaa campus.
