The Kajaani University Consortium (KUC) is an internationally active research institute at the University of Oulu. The objective is to intensify cooperation between the universities and to develop collaboration with regional universities of applied sciences, business and commerce. Kajaani University Consortium is opening a project researcher position in the Unit of Measurement Technology (MITY) located in Kajaani.
The Unit of Measurement Technology (MITY) is part of the Kajaani University Consortium. MITY is an international measurement technology research unit aiming to carry out research and technology development and provide R&D-services in the selected fields of measurement technologies. MITY consists of two research groups: Cleantech and Health & wellbeing. The aim of the cleantech group is to develop novel applications of measurement technologies for real-time environmental monitoring, mining industry, forest industry and bioeconomy. The group has strong knowledge of electrochemistry, optical measurement methods and image-based measurements. Health & wellbeing group aims to develop online biosensors for applications of human physiology and to develop analytical services for the food sector, analyzing of plant ingredients, their bioactivities and processing of plant material. The group has strong knowledge of electrochemical enzyme based biosensors, immunosensors and optic SPR-sensors, and also of versatile processing and analyzing of plant materials.
The project researcher position includes research work in optical biosensor development within the MITY’s projects. Project researcher works in close contact with the research managers of MITY´s research groups and is partly responsible of project planning and preparation of supplementary funded project applications. Project management skills are expected. Demonstrated experience and potential in acquiring supplementary national and international funding and experience in working in joint projects with companies as well as writing scientific publications will be taken as merits. Experience in working in supplementary funded projects is required.
We expect you to have at least M.Sc degree in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or in a related area. Fluent oral and written English skills as well as good communication and teamwork skills are required. You will also need a driving license.
The salary will be set according to the levels 9 - 11 of the demand level for other staff in Finnish universities depending of the qualifications of the applicant. In addition to the job-specific salary component, a personal work performance component is also be paid, amounting to not more than 50 % of the job-specific component.
The starting date is May 1st, 2019, latest in June 2019. The position is fixed-term for two years. A six-month trial period will be applied to the position.
The top candidates for the post may be interviewed and asked to present their scientific work and experience in acquiring supplementary national and international funding.
