We are looking for a Project manager (designer) for a 3.5 year fixed-term position at the Smart and Creative City innovation hub until October 31st, 2027. The position focuses on the Cycle4Climate project (60% of the working time) and the Smart Campus projects (40% of working time).
The position starts on May 1st, 2024 (or as agreed).
The Cycle4Climate – Co-creating Sustainable Cycling Solutions for Reducing CO2 Emissions in the Central Baltic Region project aims to reduce carbon emissions by increasing the modal share of cycling through socially innovative interventions in urban space. The project consortium consists of eight cities and universities in the Baltic Sea region, with Metropolia leading the work package that implements interventions to promote cycling, their evaluation and the development of a toolbox for cities based on these insights. The project is led by the Urban Studio of the University of Gävle and funded by the EU's Interreg Central Baltic Programme.
In addition to Cycle4Climate, you will provide design expertise for the innovation hub's Smart Campus development work and work together with its project manager, innovation hub experts and stakeholders.

The main tasks of the Project manager (designer):
- Sees to the implementation and administration (including reporting and financial monitoring) of the Metropolia part in the Cycle4Climate project following the project plan
- Coordinates the user-centred planning, evaluation and analysis of the results of the experiments carried out in the four cities (Espoo, Gävle, Pärnu, and Riga) of the Cycle4Climate project in cooperation with city partners and other project experts
- Designs and develops the Cycle4Climate toolbox with a transdisciplinary team of experts
- Identifies RDI-integrated learning opportunities concerning the Cycle4Climate project with senior lecturers and supervises the student work with them as a project expert
- Organises the first annual event of the Cycle4Climate project in cooperation with the City of Espoo
- Contributes design expertise to the Smart Campus development and related project preparations (e.g. promoting the use of Smart Campus in teaching, projects, and continuing education, as well as supporting the activities of campus service providers and the overall improvement of the user experience of campus users)
Job requirements:
- Proven capacity in design/service design
- Proven capacity to run the user-oriented design process and facilitate co-development processes with various stakeholders
- Proactiveness and excellent organisational skills
- Excellent teamwork skills and flexibility to work on versatile tasks
- Excellent oral and written English skills
- Innovative work approach and ability to identify development opportunities
- Availability to travel and participate in project meetings in the partner countries
Eligibility requirements include a higher education degree suitable for the position and experience in positions corresponding to the project themes.
In addition, we appreciate:
- Familiarity with and interest in promoting cycling and/or in sustainable urban development
- Experience in RDI project work and working in international settings
- Demonstrated competence in applying design thinking in the context of urban development
- Experience in evaluating design-based interventions
- Experience in social marketing
The salary and other terms of employment are based on the collective agreement of the Finnish Education Employers (FEE) in the universities of applied sciences. The position includes a six-month trial period.
