To strengthen our operations in Varkaus we are looking for

Product Designer

The Product Designer will work directly with Capital Product Managers to develop solutions and machines for AFT´s Process and equipment solution business.  Also fine tuning project specific mechanical solutions will be part of the job and collaborating with the other product design team. The job requires competence in part manufacturing and assembly work. Continuous relationship and guidance to different manufacturing sites is essential to ensure that new part designs and manufacturing methods are understood.

The incumbent will work directly with internal and external resources to design and implement machines and equipment and to effectively supply deliverables as specified in the customer purchase order/contract.  Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical product design and production planning
  • Participate to the development and creation of a new machines & equipment solutions to AFT
  • Drawing 3-D models and manufacturing drawings for machines
  • Keeping mechanical documentation discipline
  • Creating project specific drawings for capital projects
  • Keeping close contact to the manufacturing sub-suppliers and participating to the quality assurance and control
  • Participating to project start-ups at customer site
  • Monitor and document tools utilized by the Capital organization
  • Participate to revision of capital products and modification of equipment designs for reliability and serviceability where possible

The following skills, knowledge and features will be valued when evaluating our candidates:  

  • BS/MS Mechanical engineering degree
  • 5+ years of industrial mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience of Rotating equipment design
  • Experience in designing cast manufacturing parts
  • Demonstrated capability with 3D design software (Solid Works, Inventor, NX) and basics of PDM
  • Basic understanding for drive train design and calculations
  • Basic understanding of workshop manufacturing methods and assembly work
  • Basic understanding for equipment operating under pressure, upto 10 bar
  • Strong-relationship skills resulting from having been in a team oriented work environment
  • Strong communication and teaching skills to enable team skill development
  • Used to and comfortable with travel and being in the field within industrial job sites
