We are now looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Hedging & Financial Trading team in Helsinki, Finland.

UPM Energy is the second largest electricity producer in Finland with production capacity of around 1 500MW. The business is focusing on electricity generation as well as trading in physical and financial markets. Industrial electricity consumption and flexibility services to industrial consumers is part of our strategy. We have roughly 50 energy professionals operating in Nordic and Central European energy markets.

Hedging & Financial Trading Team is responsible for hedging energy price exposures both for UPM Energy and as a service for other UPM businesses. We operate in the main European power exchanges and manage exposures for example in Nordic power, European power and gas, EUAs and GoOs.

What you’ll do

  • Carry out hedging transactions in your own area of responsibility, in line with market view, hedging strategy and risk mandate
  • Analyse, find and utilise trading opportunities to contribute to your own or the team’s P&L
  • Actively contribute to the formulation of hedging strategy and propose adjustments to the strategy
  • Actively contribute to Hedging & Financial Trading team’s development and participate in development projects
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders

Who you are

  • You have a university degree in engineering, economics, mathematics or similar field and you are fluent in English
  • You have minimum 5 years of working experience from Nordic or German power markets or European gas markets, and you have a solid knowledge of fundamentals in at least one of these markets
  • You are e.g. an Analyst, looking to move into a Front Office role, or a Portfolio Manager with a proven track record, looking for new challenges
  • You are familiar with financial energy markets and products
  • You are a strong team player with ability to take responsibility
  • You have high personal integrity. Probabilistic thinking is natural for you
  • Experience from Energy Trading and Risk Management systems and working in an Over-The-Counter interface are considered an advantage
