Description of the position
Sensory Hypersensitivity unit is looking for a Phase1 trainee to be based in R&D laboratories in Turku. Our focus is in preclinical pain research.
We are currently working on several new interesting targets with main indication to treat osteoarthritis pain. We are now aiming to broaden our understanding in pain signaling in the nerve cells, which innervate the joint. We offer you a possibility get familiar with state-of-the-art methods in preclinical research, and be part of our team in broadening the understanding of osteoarthritis pain. As a Phase1 trainee you would take part in
1) setting up a new method aiming to identify the joint innervating cells, and
2) studying the mechanisms of pain sensing in the nerve cells using different in vivo models of pain.
The work would include both in vivo and in vitro methods. Previous in vivo or in vitro work is advantage, but not necessity. Passion to science, open minded attitude and capability to team work are the most essential skills. The final responsibilities can be modified according the candidate’s own interests, preferences and skills.
There is possibility to continue to do a Masters project following the summer trainee program if of interest.
Description of the unit
Sensory hyperexcitability unit is working on chronic pain diseases such as chronic neuropathic pain and chronic musculosceletal pain (such as osteoarthritis) to develop therapies to ease the pain symptoms and to understand the underlying disease mechanisms. This team is responsible for the discovery of novel targets and research projects in pain at Orion.
