Description of the positions
The three research teams at Oncology Research - Antibody Drug Conjugates, Cancer Genomics and Immuno Oncology - are looking for highly motivated students with strong background in cell biology to work as a Phase1 R&D-trainee during summer of 2023. You will support early stage drug discovery as a part of a unit focusing on target identification, validation and mechanism of action studies. You will do hands-on laboratory work such as mammalian cell culture and related biology/molecular biology assays, as well as participate in daily laboratory maintenance under supervision of scientists and experienced research assistants. You do not necessarily need knowledge in Finnish for this task. There are three positions in total in Oncology research (one in each research team), and they are all placed in the research laboratories in Turku.
Description of the units
The Antibody-Drug Conjugates team’s role is to identify and validate therapeutic targets and actively develop and characterise Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) utilising biochemical, cellular, and in vivo methods. ADCs are innovative biopharmaceutical products in which a monoclonal antibody is linked to a small molecule drug with a linker.
The Cancer Genomics research team utilises genomic data from databases, cancer models and patients in the discovery of novel cancer vulnerabilities that guide target identification. We have broad technological capabilities and utilise high-throughput methods and automation in our research projects and support small molecule drug discovery.
Immuno-Oncology (IO) therapies are novel class of drugs that provide the immune systems with tools to recognise cells that slip past immune surveillance mechanisms and become cancer. IO unit is responsible for novel IO drug discovery projects and identification and validation of novel IO targets.
