We are now looking for a Mechanical/Project Engineer to join BASF’s new battery material and chemical plant in Harjavalta. The position is permanent and will start as soon as possible.

In this role, you will join the new site at its pre-FEED/FEED-phase. It will be followed by detail engineering and construction/(pre-)commissioning phases. You will be responsible for the mechanical equipment related activities in the project phase and after the plant startup Your work would be related to Harjavalta plant future investment and development projects as a project engineer. In the project You would report to EBMI project Field Engineering Manager and after the project to Harjavalta site Asset Manager. These tasks include for example:

  • Making sure the mechanical equipment activities are in the overall time schedule and based on the project objectives
  • Defining the project mechanical engineering standards and design basis
  • Retrieve budgetary quotes for equipment and machinery and consider sourcing opportunities
  • Risk assessment
  • Functional leadership, coaching and guidance to engineering partner’s mechanical team.
  • Supporting in the construction and commissioning
  • Monitoring the detail engineering carried out by the contractors
  • Assist in preparing the plant for a successful start up.
  • Facilitate and lead plant operational phase investment projects taking into account all project steps including planning, execution and commissioning
  • Work in good co-operation with production team and BASF Battery Materials asset management team.

We expect you to have a Master’s or Bachelor’s level degree in engineering or technology, or other corresponding education. You should also have previous experience in similar plant engineering and project leading roles where you have taken part in different mechanical and project activities, preferably in a process plant. We also expect fluency in both Finnish and English, on top of which German is a plus. We also appreciate knowledge of metal precipitation and solids handling manufacturing processes.

In this role, you will join new plant’s life cycle from the very start and be a crucial part in starting its operations and also to be involved in future investments within BASF Harjavalta site and BASF Battery Materials international team. It also allows you to develop within the role, giving more challenging tasks and responsibilities as the plant is built. In this role You would also have possibility to work together with BASF Battery Materials international asset team to be involved in battery materials processes development within BASF.
