Machine Learning Specialist

We are looking for a Machine Learning Specialist to work with our internal platform development and unique customer cases. We are currently running the largest GPU computing system in the Nordics and as CSC will be operating the European LUMI supercomputer in 2021, our machine learning potential will grow to be among the largest in the world.
You will be joining our group of data scientists, machine learning specialists, data engineers and software developers. Our responsibilities include developing the software layer for our massive environment, guiding users in their technical decisions and working in larger projects for developing new services or solving demanding customer cases. Our primary customer base is the Finnish scientific community, but it is also growing towards computationally challenging industrial applications and data-driven public sector projects. We are a down to earth group of experts who want their work to have an impact on society and help science flourish. Friendly chats over a cup of coffee are an important element of our working days.
You are a technical specialist who wants to build a good understanding of our computing environment, become a guru of GPU based machine learning workflows and communicate best practices to our users. You are motivated to give expert support to scientific customers, write technical documentation and contribute to practical training courses.
A successful candidate has a background that covers many of the relevant technical skills, including:
- Machine learning theory (esp. deep learning)
- GPU computing and distributed GPU computing
- Machine learning applications, for example image processing and NLP
- Programming and devops (Python, git workflow)
- HPC systems and batch processing
- Containers and cloud computing
Additionally, you have an understanding of computational research, for example through your own research background.
You have a PhD or MSc in computer science or other relevant field and 2-3 years of work experience in machine learning. Good communication skills in both verbal and written English are essential.
We are a non-profit company and base our development work on open source and open collaboration. This position is permanent and can be located in our Espoo or Kajaani office. Currently we are working fully remotely due to Covid-19 situation.
