Lead Data Engineer

We are looking for a
Lead Data Engineer
to join our Innovation Excellence unit, Development & Processes team in Porvoo and Espoo.
We have a growing team of experts working in the Development and Processes team. Our team is responsible for driving improvements related to innovation capability, processes, digitalization and quality across Innovation organization (including Research, Development and Innovation operations).
As a Lead Data Engineer, you will lead complex data engineering and analytics projects by designing innovative solutions in an agile and collaborative manner.
In the big picture, you will actively contribute in implementing our Innovation Digitalization strategy. You design and continuously develop the Innovation Digital Foundation with your hands-on contribution to data, analytics and IoT solution prototyping & design.
Your main responsibilities in creating a sustainable future are
- Design solutions for data automations and visualizations in cooperation with IT and partners.
- Oversee, guide, manage and validate IT project deliverables and operations
- Explore and evaluate new technologies for data and analytics through POCs and prototypes
- Work with researchers and labs to implement smaller digital improvements
- Provide technical coaching to researchers in use of data automation and tools
You will work closely with various roles and teams in our growing Innovation organisation, Neste IT organization and external IT service partners to ensure efficient utilization of digitalization and data across research, development and innovation operations. You will report to the Head of Development and Processes, Innovation Excellence.
The best combination to success in this role
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant field (or equivalent experience)
- Over 5 years of expert level hands-on experience in data and analytics design and development in following areas:
- SQL, database design, ETL, query optimization
- Azure - Data Lake, Data Factory and Cosmos DB, Synapse or Snowflake
- File formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, Parquet etc.
- Dev/Ops, data security and network connectivity
- Thorough understanding and passion for working with
- BI and data warehousing concepts - Data Vault, dimensional modelling
- Distributed computing engines (MPP, Spark)
- Advance search concepts like indexes, lucene syntax, text and document searching
- IoT, Edge computing, Stream processing
- Solid track record of developing and deploying robust production grade data processing solutions with strong problem solving, reverse engineering and debugging skills.
- Fluent English both written and spoken
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
We also value
- Experience with Power BI or similar modern BI platforms
- Intermediate level programming knowledge with Python
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts.
