An open laboratory technician position is available in the field of protein chemistry in the research group of Dr Lari Lehtiö (http://www.oulu.fi/biocenter/groups/lehtio). The group focuses on protein studies including structural biology and drug discovery.
Description of the position
The duration of the post will be initially until 8/2020. Contract may be extended depending on the performance and funding situation of the research group.
The starting date is May 1, 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter. A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of the contract.
The laboratory technician will join an international team of scientists studying protein structure, function and inhibition. In addition to the general laboratory management tasks the duties include recombinant protein production, carrying out established protein purification methods and activity assays. Work experience in cell culture, protein production, purification and analysis are considered beneficial.
Additional tasks will be agreed based on personal skills and interest of the recruited person.
Required Qualifications and assessment
Experience with basic biological laboratory techniques is required. The successful applicant must hold a suitable degree (e.g. laboratory technician or bioanalyst degree).
The working language of the team is English and laboratory notes are also done electronically in English. Fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as good communication and teamwork skills are required.
The salary will be based on levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for the “other staff” of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific component). The salary is in practice roughly 2300- 2600 € / month, depending on qualifications and performance.
