We offer summer jobs in the following areas:
1. Software DevOps trainees (several positions)
Several possible tasks depending on your skills and expertise. These range from developing continuous integration processes to developing new features in the services to automating and streamlining the release, maintenance and development processes, as well as maintaining and monitoring the services. We hope you have some knowledge of Linux environments, software development (Python, Bash, SQL, Apache PHP, Javascript etc.), container technologies (Docker, Podman and Kubernetes etc.), storage systems (object storage and S3), CI/CD technologies (Jenkins, GitLab (Runner).
2. Software Development trainees (several positions)
Several possible tasks depending on your skills and expertise. In addition to coding, you can participate in design, testing, and software transfer for production. We expect you to have some basic programming skills (Python etc.) and Linux skills.
3. Computing services trainees (several positions)
Several possible tasks related to supercomputer and cloud environments, depending on your skills and expertise. We hope you have at least intermediate LINUX skills and experience of some of the following: ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) stack, Deep Learning / Machine Learning frameworks, Apache Spark, Programming / Scripting (Python, Bash, Perl, C, Go etc.), Docker or Singularity containers and Github or Gitlab.
4. Platform Development trainee
You will update the visual outlook, develop further the CI setup and testing, and add new functionality to the CSC's main user guide platform, docs.csc.fi. We expect you to be familiar with Git, CSS, Bash scripting, Python, Markdown, Apache/Nginx and containers.
5. Data Engineer trainee
You will participate in our software development and data engineering projects. You would be working with Python on a modern cloud and container based Linux environment. We expect you to be familiar with the Linux environment and have some basic programming skills (Python).
The position is located in Kajaani.
6. Datacenter trainee
Your tasks will include making datacenter inventories and ensuring the accuracy of data, assisting and documenting the development of datacenter capacities and maintenance of datacenter documentation. You will act as an additional resource in datacenter work, e.g. escort work and assistance in datacenter maintenance. You also will participate in deployment queue tasks and installation assistance.
The position is located in Kajaani.
7. Geographic Information System (GIS) trainee
Your tasks will include testing of old examples and if necessary update/improvement, adding new examples in field of interest (e.g. geoinformatics, remote sensing (handling of point cloud or multispectral/RADAR remote sensing data from different platforms)). We wish you to have knowledge of Python, geoinformatics or remote sensing, Linux and Bash scripting.
8. Video services trainee
You will assist our customers with the following: how to set up the video service, cleaning up Eduuni websites for customers, setting up Zoom -rooms, etc. equipment testing and helping to organize video rooms, as well as offering video.csc.fi subtitling support. Your tasks might also include other EDTECH services, communication and webinar organization.
9. Bioinformatics trainee
You will participate in the implementation of analysis and visualization tools for scRNA-seq data using Python and the Scanpy library and providing user support material for the new tools. We expect you to have knowledge of Python programming, familiarity with NumPy, Pandas, and scikit-learn, understanding of machine learning methods as well as familiarity with version control and git workflow.
10. Data Scientist trainee
You will work as a part of our AI and data analytics team, helping to produce analytics-related reports and course materials. For example, you can be tasked with finding out what kind of public sector analytics projects have been done in other countries. You will also get to do some small analytics work in languages such as R or Python, and try out machine learning on CSC supercomputers.
11. Object storage service trainee
You will participate in the development and maintenance of CEPH environments managed by CSC.
This position could be located either in Espoo or Kajaani.
12. Continuous Integration (CI) trainee
You will develop documentation, tutorials and examples of CI/CD pipelines with various technologies. You will also evaluate new products in CI/CD space such as Gitpod, Sentry.io, Kroki etc. User level knowledge and experience with Linux and command-line tools are required to excel in this position.
This position could be located either in Espoo or Kajaani.
13. System Administrator trainee
You will contribute to the maintenance and development of the team's services. You're familiar with Linux and Windows environments.
14. Project Acquisition and Development trainee
You will be supporting the development of CSC’s R&D project portfolio. We expect you to have fluent English (spoken and written), good organization and communication skills and good knowledge of basic MS Office tools (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
15. Coordination and communications trainee
Your tasks consist of supporting coordination duties related to development of Research.fi portal and the group's other activities e.g. research information management via various services (Justus, Virta-julkaisutietopalvelu).
16. Service communications trainee
Your tasks would mainly consist of varied tasks related to data management service communication and training.
17. Communications trainee
You will participate in both internal and external communications as a part of our Communications team. We expect you to have experience from content production and knowledge of social media channels.
18. UX trainee
You will be working with CSC's services and internal development projects to ensure user-driven development. You will prepare and conduct user research and analyze the findings, design user interfaces, create prototypes and complete user tests.
19. Policy trainee
You will provide support for the follow-up and analysis of new and ongoing national and EU policy initiatives as well as EU funding programs. You will assist in the influencing efforts related to the above, e.g. organizing meetings, providing input to statements and communication efforts.
20. Contract register trainee
Your task will include updating information in the contract register system (Service Now), advising and instructing users, extracting expired contracts and sending them from the paper archive to the main archive.
21. HR trainee
As part of our HR team, you will gain a wide range of experience in HR processes, employment issues, recruitment, and you will also get involved in development projects.
Our summer trainees usually work from May to August, but other dates are also possible. The duration is usually 3-4 months. The workplaces are mainly located in Keilaniemi in Espoo, but some positions may also be available in Kajaani.
