Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT), is a government agency that reports to the Flemish Government and promotes sustainable international business in Flanders, the northern federated state of Belgium.

FIT supports the international activities of Flemish companies by attracting foreign investors to Flanders and by helping companies in Flanders with their export plans. FIT advises and provides guidance to companies with an investment project in Flanders and brings buyers into contact with Flemish producers.

We are now looking for local

Head of office

for Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) in Helsinki. You are an important link between Finnish and Flemish business and trading and you work closely with counsellors and the Belgian Embassy. Your focus will be on trade and investment projects and you will actively network with Finnish companies and other existing and potential stakeholders in order to improve and promote export of the Flemish companies in Finland.

This is a full time position based in Helsinki with an interesting opportunity to work in an international environment.

Your tasks:

  • You analyze and react in timely manner to the trade requests coming from Flemish companies. You organize individual prospect trips of Flemish companies to Finland and set up B2B-meetings when required. Occasionally, group trade missions to Finland also need to be organized either for Flanders Investment & Trade or for third parties.
  • You proactively identify economic sectors in Finland that present opportunities to Flemish exporters. You prepare an annual market study that is published on Flanders Investment & Trade’s website each year. You are also knowledgeable on trade and business regulations in the Finnish market and when necessary can give advice on subsidies etc. requested by Flemish companies to explore opportunities in the Finnish market.
  • You are knowledgeable about Finnish companies wanting to expand abroad and promote Flanders as an investment location, with its specific advantage, to the Finnish companies. You follow up these potential Finnish companies by using the economic press and other sources to identify target companies, develop a network with these companies and deliver investment leads to Flanders.
  • Office Management: You manage the office, report to HQ on relevant aspects (accountancy, budget etc.). You are expected to represent Flanders at functions and co-operate with the Belgian Embassy.


We hope you to be friendly, reliable, flexible and accurate in following up questions coming from external stakeholders (i.e. companies) or internal departments of the organization. You are a natural networker and feel comfortable in situation where you represent FIT for external stakeholders. You can work independently and together with colleagues from the HQ in Brussels and the other foreign offices.

We appreciate if you have knowledge of Finnish economic sectors and business offerings and if you are able to see how these can lead to opportunities for Flemish companies. Obviously in this role you need to be very good in your communication and have patience to to build business relationships through communications and networking to develop business opportunities for organizations, clients or third parties.

We expect you to have a suitable degree (M.Sc. / BBA) and relevant work experience from an international or a business environment. In this role you also need excellent knowledge of English (oral and written). A working knowledge of Finnish, Dutch or French is an advantage.
