Bayer Pharmaceuticals’ Medical Affairs Unit is now looking for a Head of Medical Affairs Oncology. In this role you will be responsible for providing medical guidance, governance and leadership in oncology therapeutic area. You will act as a strategic medical partner for the business while being fully updated and maintain the highest level of clinical and scientific knowledge. You will contribute to the development of medical strategy and provide medical input for the therapeutic area ensuring support of the life cycle of all our oncology products. You will execute the medical component of the brand strategies and ensure that the team members are trained well, and medical efforts are properly documented. You will also act as the contact person and representative regarding medical/scientific aspects for the scientific community. This a managerial role reporting to the Vice President, Medical Director, Bayer Oy. The position is based in Espoo, Keilaniemi.



  • Act as member of the multidisciplinary brand team
  • Guide the strategic direction in therapeutic areas and distil clear content from the wealth of scientific data
  • Support in creation of convincing communication concepts in collaboration with marketing and external partners
  • Contribute to the content of promotional materials and approve them
  • Develop good relationships with key opinion leaders
  • Answer medical questions concerning assigned products
  • Train brand marketing and sales force regarding medical aspects
  • Be a member of the Medical Affairs Management Team

Managerial responsibilities:

  • Manage the performance of MSLs
  • Develop, evaluate and deliver core trainings for MSLs
  • Be accountable for the quality and consistency of scientific and medical knowledge of MSLs
  • Lead the strategy and development of processes and capabilities that optimize the delivery of scientific services to internal and external stakeholders/customers
  • Coach, support and provide feedback on job performance for MSLs
  • Accountable for the effective collaboration of the MSL Team within the TA team, Medical Affairs and Business Unit (BU).

Business Unit/Therapeutic Area Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize work and resources across the TA core team and manage field-based project responsibilities as they pertain to the MSLs
  • Effectively partner with cross-functional team members
  • Ensure internal stakeholders are knowledgeable of key opinion leaders’ views and opinions as it pertains to Bayer products
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving the therapeutic area operational needs and processes of the MSLs and sharing best practices within the function
  • Proactively coordinate field need for medical/scientific knowledge
  • Work closely with the TA sales leadership to ensure optimal alignment of field resources in delivering therapeutic area goals and objectives in a compliant manner


  • MD with clinical experience in Oncology
  • Experience in driving and managing the medical strategy for various brands in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
  • Clinical research and trial management experience, and ability to interact with key stakeholders and investigators
  • Excellent and professional presentation, communication, teaching and influencing skills
  • Independent, pro-active and result-driven
  • Ability to form relationships quickly and have demonstrable persuasive abilities
  • Excellent leadership capabilities; ability to motivate, inspire and develop others
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Strong team player and know how to collaborate and engage with many stakeholders across a large organization
  • Solid negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Good analytical and numerical abilities
  • Ability to strategic and innovative thinking
  • Ability to manage budgets
  • Fluent Finnish and English
  • Ability to work with high ethical standards
  • Willing to travel
