We are now looking for
Head of EU Affairs
to join our Public Affairs team in Brussels.
As Head of EU Affairs, you will be responsible for representing Neste’s views to the European Union decision-makers. You will devise and implement advocacy strategies in view of making sure that Neste’s views on EU legislation are considered by the European Commission, European Parliament and the Council of Ministers.
Relevant policy fields include EU energy, especially renewable energy, climate, environment and transport policies. You will build coalitions with companies and other stakeholders and represent Neste in key industry associations. You will lead establishing coherent Neste positions on EU legislation by working with a broad group of internal stakeholders at Neste. You will anticipate EU policies’ impact on Neste and communicate about them to the senior business leaders of the company. Head of EU Affairs will report to Director of Public Affairs in Neste’s Sustainability and Public Affairs organization, and will receive the full support of relevant Neste organisations and access to consultant resources.
A successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter who thrives on building and maintaining networks among policy-makers and industry colleagues. Great people skills are necessary to garner the cooperation and support from Neste colleagues across the corporation. Resilience, flexibility and ability to manage a broad set of policy questions in uncertain situation is required. Ability to analyze complex policy questions and their impact to Neste business quickly, and communicating about them to various audiences is important.
Knowledge of EU institutions and EU policy-making processes, or eagerness to learn about them, is necessary. Outstanding influencing and communications skills, both verbally and in writing, at a minimum in English are required. Proficiency in Finnish is considered a great advantage. All other languages are a plus. Understanding of European Union’s energy, climate, renewables, transport and environmental policies is an advantage, as is understanding of refining, biofuels or chemicals industry and markets.
Close to ten years of relevant working experience and a master’s level academic degree are required. Degrees in law, political science / EU Affairs, economics or engineering are among the suitable ones.
Success in this job will require international travel. While the position is located in Brussels, spending adequate time at the company headquarters in Espoo, Finland is necessary.
The person selected for the position must pass a health examination that includes a drug test. Security clearance is obtained for the person with their consent.
