Job Description

We are looking for a Head of Digital Service Design to lead the service design aspect of Metso’s Digital Garage. Metso’s Digital Garage will focus on customer-centric opportunities and potential digital innovations to create innovative digital concepts and fast prototypes from concepts. This role can be located either in Metso headquarters in Helsinki (Sanomatalo) or in Vantaa.


As a Head of Digital Service Design, your focus will be on working closely together with our business area product owners and understanding their business development opportunities or challenges to create a concept for new digital services. After concept phase, you will clearly articulate the business objectives to external digital development partner to deliver a quick and functional prototype for the concept. You will evaluate and, if needed, challenge and suggest a better approach to deliver high quality customer experience in given context.

You will be in charge of ensuring that our distributors’ and end customers’ business needs will be fulfilled with our fast growing range of digital services. You will communicate with key internal and external stakeholders, manage the received feedback, coach and train Metso’s teams and last but not least – work in close co-operation with the rest of Metso’s Digital Office and its stakeholders. You will actively participate and contribute in customer/distributor interaction, and use the contextual data for improving customer experience.


This role requires travelling max 50% of the work schedule.


To Succeed

To be successful in this role, you should have a solid understanding of what it takes to succeed with great customer experience in the B2B space. You understand complex, engineered, configurable products as well as service sales. You also have a keen interest in end user experience and understand that even small details matter – you have an eye for elegance as well as a healthy dose of pragmatism. Service design is your second nature, and at the same time, you have what it takes to turn the insights into an actual digital solution in an agile way.

You are innovative and you enjoy creating something new and driving a cultural change.


You should have:

  • Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree in either Service Design, Human-centered Design, Experience Design or other relevant area
  • Relevant experience from UI/UX projects from design to implementation and rollout
  • Relevant experience in designing user or customer journeys, storyboards using design-thinking and best practices from human-centered design principles
  • Knowledge of great customer experience principles, service design, and agile project methodologies
  • Experience of working in fast-paced agile teams.
  • Excellent presentation, visualization and illustration skills
  • Technical know-how is a plus
  • Proven leadership and networking skills
  • Fluent English skills
