Our Global Corporate Responsibility team in the Espoo headquarters is now looking

Global Sustainability Manager for a fixed-term position

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Responsibility, the Global Sustainability Manager (Interim) will help to deliver important sustainability projects. The role requires strong understanding of relevant environmental issues (for example: the Single Use Plastics Directive, calculation of GHG emissions), strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and a practical, action oriented attitude. The Global Sustainability Manager should exemplify Huhtamaki’s values: “We treat our world with respect”, “We know our business” and “We like to get it done”.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Responsibility, you will help to improve Huhtamaki’s global environmental performance. The role requires in-depth technical understanding of environmental issues, strong interpersonal and analytical skills, and a practical, action-oriented attitude.

The main responsibilities include

  • Monitor and follow up on important regulatory developments, such as the Single Use Plastics Directive, and recommend the appropriate business responses
  • Help to manage information and commitments regarding industry associations
  • Determine Scope 2 market based GHG emissions
  • Help to deliver the Natural Resource Plan, which is about reducing energy, water and waste across our business segments
  • Develop our Sustainability Criteria which inform product innovation
  • Help develop our water management approach related to sites situated in areas of water stress
  • Give hands-on support to our business segments as required
  • Give hands-on support with communications and conference activities as required

You will be working closely with internal and external stakeholders. Since you are a member of a small team, it is important that you have a “can-do” attitude and you like working on a wide range of tasks.

The requirements for a suitable candidate are

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in sustainability and environmental issues
  • Extensive professional sustainability experience in a business context, with a strong understanding of sustainability data around climate, recycling and waste, circular economy and environmental regulations
  • University level degree, preferably within chemistry, environmental management or sustainability
  • Experience from a commercial packaging, recycling or FMCG business
  • Strong project management, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority and across cultures
  • Robust analytical skills to build insights and draw conclusions from large data sets
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Positive mindset and eagerness to work in a truly international environment
  • Service attitude, flexibility, willingness / interest to learn, open mind
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Power Point, Word)
