The Nordic Development Fund now seeks to recruit an Environmental & Social Safeguards Specialist to coordinate work in the area of environmental and social safeguards compliance including gender equality. This position is new and part of the Quality Assurance and Reporting department within NDF.

Your main responsibilities as Environmental & Social Safeguards Specialist:

Coordinate the review and update of NDF policies, guidelines, formats/manuals, tools and procedures in the area of E&S
Review E&S safeguards compliance in the context of new financing activities, and perform the reviews in close co-operation with Program Managers and project staff
Provide advisory services to NDF staff in the area of E&S
Identify and prioritise knowledge needs in NDF in the area of E&S safeguards and organise and conduct training as necessary
Contribute to knowledge sharing and harmonisation efforts through conferences, working groups etc. 
Participate in strategic partnerships and networks in the area of E&S with other entities such as the bilateral and multilateral agencies, including MDBs
Oversee compliance with NDFs Gender Equality Policy and guidelines
Review Gender Equality Policy compliance in the context of new financing activities, and perform the reviews in close co-operation with Program Managers and project staff
Prepare responses to relevant audits, evaluations and reviews that relate to E&S and Gender Equality
Prepare memos and other documents as needed 
Support the Department Director in overseeing the overall compliance with the E&S safeguard policies and guidelines including NDF gender policies and guidelines
Perform other duties assigned by the Managing Director and / or Department Director


Master’s degree in Social Science or other relevant studies
A minimum of ten years of experience within development cooperation and a minimum of five years of specific experience within E&S work
International experience in an organisation with focus on development and / or emerging markets
Experience in operational work in developing countries
Trainer / capacity-building experience
Fluent in English.  We value working knowledge of Spanish and/or French. Proficiency of one or more Scandinavian languages is seen as a plus
