Ritchie Bros, the world’s largest auctioneer of commercial assets and vehicles, is now in a rapid growth phase and on the path to transforming and modernizing their Rbauction website and its technical architecture. Therefore, they are now looking for an Engineering Manager to join their forces in Helsinki, and this is where your input and skills will be needed!
In this key role, you will build and lead a team of approximately 5 tech professionals, including software and QA engineers. The team handles the search capability of the Rbauction site, and you will be responsible for this functional area on the website, enabling a joyful and productive environment in which the team can deliver high-quality software. More specifically, your role will include the following tasks:
- Hiring and retaining a group of talented software engineers, motivating and mentoring them to achieve maximum productivity
- Creating a productive, enabling environment and assuring resilient, self-healing software products with maximum quality
- Focusing on understanding the full team lean value stream and managing and monitoring performance and waste within that value stream
- Partnering with Staff Engineers and Product Management to develop realistic design proposals and development schedules. Breaking down a large body of work into multiple phases of development tasks, and allocating development and testing resources to hit project milestones
- Building skillsets within the team through partnership with Engineering Enablement teams and assuring team members have the skills and tools necessary to achieve their targets
The main emphasis of the role is on leading, mentoring, and coaching, but to achieve the team’s technical milestones, a suitable background in software development and a thorough understanding of the relevant technologies are necessary. The auction software is built with the following technologies and frameworks, but we don’t expect you to have experience with all of them: CircleCI, Helm, Kubernetes (EKS), CodeClimate, Snyk, GitHub, Spotbugs, Vault, Java, Java Spring Boot, Jacoco, Next.js, React, Nx, Jest, AWS, OpenSearch, DynamoDB.

We are looking for a person with the capability to manage and coach software development projects and lead a team of engineers for the entire cycle of product development, from requirements gathering to producing software specifications and developing and testing software, until the successful release of the projects.

We hope you have:
- Relevant degree in computer science or equivalent
- 6+ years of experience in software development, ideally focusing on modern frontend development and technologies (JavaScript, React)
- Solid technical understanding of AWS cloud, frontend frameworks, and advanced deployments with Kubernetes
- Supportive approach to leadership with a willingness to coach and mentor others
- Strong communication and team-leading skills combined with an ability to work in a multicultural team
- Ability to take responsibility and make decisions independently
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

- Prior experience in tech management or lead roles
Practicalities:
In this full-time and permanent position, you will be employed directly by Ritchie Bros. The start time in the role is as soon as possible. Ritchie Bros has an office in the heart of Helsinki, and we hope you are willing to visit the Helsinki office a couple of days per week to meet your team and colleagues. As you will be working with the US-based teams and projects, we hope you have flexibility to participate in meetings at about 5-6 pm Finnish time when needed. The base salary in this position is approximately 7000 €/month depending on your experience and will be negotiated individually
