Wärtsilä Marine Power, Power Supply, is now looking for an Engineer - Certification & Classification, to join the Catalyst Systems, Technology Team.
Emission certifications, international maritime legislation and framework, accreditation and classification - these are just some of the interesting and challenging subject matters you get to work with in this position. We are looking for an experienced professional to work in an entrepreneurial team which develops and delivers world class exhaust after treatment systems and solutions for engines used on marine as well as land based power generation applications.
Your main tasks include but are not limited to emission certification development as well as the certifications themselves for production engines, classification approvals for exhaust gas after treatment systems, legislation follow up and development with other team members and co-operation with both domestic and global instances such as Traficom, classification societies and shipyards.
Most of your working hours are spent working with development projects, problem solving and collaboration with other teams with a small portion of your time consisting of routine type work. You will work closely with sales, R&D and delivery projects in an advisory role regarding matters of certification and classification and you get to interact and brainstorm with colleagues from other teams on a daily basis.
Experience and knowledge of marine emission legislation, classification societies, marine industry, ship propulsion machinery and emission after treatment systems is counted as a great benefit to be able to shine in this position. A suitable educational background could be from technical engineering and/or naval architecture, preferably a master's degree. More important however is your skillset and experience, which can be from the maritime industry, classification societies or some other legislative organization to name a few possibilities. The position is classified as senior level and thus we expect at least some years of work experience after graduation.
From a personality standpoint, this is a role for someone with a pragmatic and detail oriented way of working. A lot of your tasks will revolve around reading, understanding and interpreting documentation relating to legislation, standardization and certification thus you need to have the ability to see the larger picture. The job description can also be molded according to your expertise but the willingness and capability to continuously learn new things is a must have trait in this position. Finnish and English are equally important as working languages in both written and spoken forms as you will be reading and producing formal text, proposals and documentation in both languages. Your job also involves daily cooperation with both in-house and third party professionals, stakeholders and officials so a certain level of communicational skill is required.
The position is a full time one and you can be based around Turku, Vaasa or Helsinki with flexible remote work also a possibility.
