EHSQ Manager


The Kevitsa open-pit mine in northern Finland was acquired by Boliden in June 2016. The operation, which comprises a mine and a concentrator, went into operation in 2012 and is thus still in its ramp-up phase. The Kevitsa deposit – first discovered in 1987 – is one of the largest ever mineral discoveries in Finland. Currently, Kevitsa has 500 employees who work together with around 200 contractors.

Boliden’s overall goal is to create profitability and growth in a responsible manner with consideration for people, environment and society. Boliden Kevitsa is offering the excellent career opportunity for an experienced EHSQ professional to lead and develop the environment, health, safety and quality support functions of the open pit mine and mill operations. The main responsibility of the EHSQ Manager is to ensure that work within the EHSQ sections is conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, government decisions and the company’s internal regulations and policies. EHSQ Manager reports to the General Manager and is part of Boliden Kevitsa’s site management team.

Key areas of responsibilities and duties include:

  • Leading the environmental, safety, health and quality teams
  • Managing and developing process for environmental permits and mining permits
  • Budgeting responsibility for the department
  • Leading compliance with health and safety policies and environmental management standards
  • Maintaining an ongoing, open dialogue with stakeholders such as local inhabitants, authorities and media
  • Leading, developing and evaluating Boliden Kevitsa’s sustainability work.

Education and qualifications

The appointee will have:

  • University, Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering or similar relevant education
  • Previous experience as manager of environmental, health and/or safety sections in mining industry or other process industry
  • Budget preparation and cost management experience
  • Experience in mentoring, capacity building and/or leading diverse work teams
  • Demonstrated understanding and enforcement of policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance and  human resources

In addition to these requirements, the following would be well regarded:

  • Fluent Finnish and English language skills
  • Ability to effectively delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills both in writing and verbal
  • Negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relations within all levels of organization and stakeholders
