EIT Climate KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is the EU’s largest public-private partnership addressing climate change through innovation. Our community consists of over 250 leading partners from business, academia, the public sector and non-governmental organisations. Our purpose is to help create a prosperous, inclusive, climate resilient society founded on a circular, zero-carbon economy.

We are now looking for an Education Hackathon Manager to work seamlessly with the EIT Climate KIC organization.

Your role and goals

Climate KIC in conjunction with Aalto University, will organize a large European wide digital education hackathon that will take place in late 2019 and will be held simultaneously in tens of European cities. As the Education Hackathon Manager your role will be to conceptualize, plan and execute this major event together with EIT Climate KIC, which already has experience in organizing climate hackathons (called Climathon) globally.

EIT Climate KIC’s delivery of a successful and high-quality Education Hackathon is heavily dependent on effective management over the course of the next year. As the manager of the event, you will be its primary coordinator and responsible for recruiting host institutions and organizations, assuring careful consideration is given to the interests and goals of all stakeholders involved. This manager position is also responsible for the development of communication strategies and tools regarding outreach to potential hosts, participants, and media coverage (i.e. website platform creation, utilizing relevant network contacts, and social media presence). Your role as Education Hackathon Manager will be essential in developing an effective format for the event that aims to achieve the creation of meaningful and applicable ideas through its participants regarding the future of digital education. You will delegate support in the preparation and delivery of the events at the local level. Following the event, you will collect the results and develop a joint report to provide the necessary information for its evaluation.

The employment will be a fixed-term contract with Aalto University commencing as soon as possible until end of 2019.

Key Responsibilities

  • Being accountable for developing and implementing an effective event strategy for the Education Hackathon
  • Reaching out to educational institutions and relevant groups to seek their participation in hosting the events
  • Supporting the participating organizations in engaging all relevant stakeholders, amongst others, the 5 other KICs and their partners who will also be participating in this cross-KIC project
  • Concerted effort for overall coherence of the marketing, execution, and evaluation of the event
  • Collaborate with EIT Climate KIC’s education partners to ensure all necessary interdisciplinary knowledge is incorporated to execute a high-quality event
  • Ensuring that the development of the event contributes towards EIT Climate KIC’s impact goals
  • Take a key leadership role in reporting the activities and results of the event to EIT Climate KIC’s funding bodies

Your network and team

  • Belongs to the EIT Services team at Aalto University Research and Innovation Services
  • Reports to the Education Director for functional responsibilities
  • Coordinates with the Climathon team to learn from their successes and adapt accordingly
  • Cooperates with counterparts in other geographic and thematic teams to coordinate action
  • Is connected with partners, stakeholders, and other major initiatives related to EIT Climate KIC’s Education goals and enhancing the reach and impact of EIT Climate KIC

Your experience and ambition

You are a skilled project manager with a relevant academic or business degree and/or other qualifications. You are interested in or have experience with “hack” development. Preferably, you have experience and qualifications in relevant areas such as digital education and learning. Knowledge of teaching methodology and effective pedagogical approaches is an asset. You have a proven record of supporting learning and teaching in innovation within the graduate, executive and professional spheres. Some expertise in the development and commissioning of innovative learning materials is an advantage. You are familiar with the skills and knowledge needs of organizations and individuals wishing to improve quality of education. We appreciate experience and ability to work with an international team and in a multidisciplinary context.

We expect you to have a strong collaborative approach towards working, service oriented attitude, and excellent communication skills in English. You are dynamic, proactive and resilient. To succeed in your work, you need creativity, curiosity and sense of humor.
