Job Purpose:

The purpose of the Digital Manager role is to;

  • Build an innovative and sustainable digital organization by proactively shaping sustainable business models that can respond to the future needs of our customers, including patients and physicians, and contribute to the overall Nordics Oncology strategy.
  • Responsible for all parts of the digital customer journey, from crafting the strategy to best in class execution for all our priority disease areas and brands.
  • Serve as a thought leader and advisor to identify trends and share insights.
  • Ensure development, co-creation and implementation of digital innovations with key stakeholders, including partnership search, idea generation and implementation oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

Industry and Innovation

  • Act as a key subject matter expert for Digital Health topics in the oncology and pharmaceuticals space, including monitoring trends, participating in industry forums and events and evaluating competitive offerings
  • Actively search out and understand innovations and developments in technology, communication mediums, web and social media tools as well as disruptions that could be attractive for the Oncology space
  • Champion ideas backed by a sound strategy, business case and execution plan that could benefit both our customers (patients) and our internal colleagues
  • Raise the Novartis Oncology profile in the digital space through strong partnerships and effective use of communications with suppliers, customers and industry peers


  • Understand the priority brands and disease areas, including customer and patient needs, disease area dynamics and current and future sources of business
  • Work closely with the priority brands & disease areas to ensure that their strategic plans are supported appropriately with digital strategy elements for tactical planning, including giving guidance on digital and multi-channel activities to help identify and capitalize on business opportunities
  • Lead digital strategy capability building to bring digital to the forefront of Novartis Oncology priorities


  • Project manage all initiatives, including pilots, tactics, support programs and other activities
  • Drive pilot projects to ensure that digital tools help increase business results
  • Identify, negotiate and on board (including NP4 and compliance) vendors and partners as applicable to support digital initiatives
  • Assemble project teams and help with directions, advice, instructions and maintain control of progress, quality and budget
  • Leverage internal organizational dynamics appropriately in order to understand the best ways to translate a digital strategy into a successful execution

Measure and Learn

  • Promote operational excellence in the digital space by actively developing and measuring all digital initiatives against a set of external and internal benchmarks
  • Interpret KPIs and analyze results in order to propose solutions for broader implementation
  • Investigate future opportunities for automation of processes
  • Ensure efficient use of internal and external vendors, including working closely with procurement; proactively monitor vendor performance and stability


  • In our high-performance team environment, the role requires key cross-functional collaboration and ability to influence decision making while building strong relationships
  • Be the face of digital, both internally and externally through exemplary leadership behaviors
  • Ensure compliance to digital processes throughout the organization and liaise regularly with the Regional and Local compliance functions to see that all processes and activities are compliant with internal and external policies (P3, EFPIA, global guidelines).
  • Ensure that all AEs reported to the DS&E department within 24 H after receipt.

Minimum requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • University Degree in Science, Marketing or Business
  • 5+ years related marketing, field sales and/or digital role experience, preferably in pharma industry
  • Knowledge and experience in implementing digital solutions and managing digital projects in a matrix organization
  • Demonstrated and proven thought leadership in technology and digital healthcare and pharma spaces
  • Shows a knack for innovation while being grounded in organizational realities on how to champion and implement ideas
  • Solid experience in project management
  • Conversant in the digital environment and able to bring in relevant technical knowledge when needed
  • Demonstrated ability to think broadly and innovate within the Pharmaceutical business
  • Proven ability to work effectively across a matrix and widely-dispersed organization
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills
  • Preferred previous experience in running projects across countries
