We are now looking for three Development Managers, Pulp Operations Development and Support to join our Biorefining team. You will be based at one of our Finnish pulp mills in Pietarsaari, Lappeenranta or Kuusankoski. 

UPM Biorefining business area leverages the synergies of Pulp, Timber and Biofuels businesses. Focusing on growth, UPM Biorefining creates value and new business opportunities from wood and biomass originating solely from sustainable sources. UPM’s spearhead project is its new Biofuels business.  UPM Biorefining has modern production sites in Finland which are closely integrated in four areas covering three pulp mills, four sawmills and the biorefinery, as well as wood sourcing and forestry operations. In Uruguay, UPM runs pulp mill and plantation operations.

What you’ll do

As Development Manager, you will work in mill environment in close cooperation with our mill personnel as well as interact with our customers in quality development projects ensuring right product quality and competitiveness process and product solutions. You will be part of a new R&D and Technical Service organization formed to strengthen technical and development support to our customers and own pulp mills.

You will focus either on chemical recovery departments and energy production, fiber line departments or raw material departments. You will develop and implement strategies and long-term development plans to ensure the competitiveness now and in the future.

  • Your way of working will be transparent and you will cooperate with all mills and sourcing aiming to find and implement resource efficient best practices
  • You ensure continual improvement in process and quality development and cost efficiency by applying principles of efficient full run and customer engagement
  • You manage several overlapping projects in different phases at one time
  • You will be responsible for coaching and development of employee in the area of your expertise

Who you are

  • You have M.Sc. degree in Engineering or equivalent and minimum five years’ experience from pulp production
  • You have good interpersonal & communication skills in both Finnish and English, other languages a plus
  • You have ability to be self-directed and have demonstrated project management skills in setting priorities and delegating, analytical problem solving, and facilitating in a team environment
  • You showcase achievement, accountability, collaboration, agility and passion in your behaviors
