Aalto University is now looking for a Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering
The School of Chemical Engineering combines natural sciences and engineering, allowing the results of our research to be refined and put into practice as ready products and processes. We work towards securing both our renewable and non-renewable natural resources for the future. The School provides education for a wide range of responsible and visionary future professionals. Research and teaching are supported by an extensive international academic and industrial cooperation network. Backed by strong cooperation with the business world, new knowledge created through research is used to reform industry and promote new forms of business. The strength of the school lies in the combination of high quality basic and applied research.
Your role and goals
As our new Dean, you will lead and manage all activities at the School and ensure steady progress towards the top in our fields. The target is to further raise the scientific impact and international profile of the School in the coming years. You have the drive and capacity to lead the School towards these goals as well as promoting the common goals of Aalto University.
In this role, you will oversee and develop the School activities, being in charge of:
You lead the School organization of 49 professors and approximately 400 other scholars and experts as well as actively engage with other Schools and the whole Aalto community. You will lead the School Management Team and act as the Chair of the School Academic Affairs Committee. As a member of the University top leadership team, you actively contribute to University-wide goals. The position is fixed term for a period of 5 years. You report to Provost.
Your experience and skills
To succeed in this role, you have strong experience in and knowledge of CHEM fields: chemical engineering, sustainable material science and biotechnology as well as an excellent personal academic track record in one of these fields. In addition, you have a doctoral degree in a relevant field of the School of Chemical Engineering. You have strong fundraising capabilities and solid research management capacity.
As an accomplished scholar, you have strong international networks within the field and successfully network and engage with industrial and other stakeholders. Having understanding of our unique profile of art and design, business and technology, you are committed to promoting multidisciplinarity of these fields.
You have strong leadership experience and skills. As a leader, you set clear goals and inspire people to thrive in their work. We are an international community of scholars and experts where we expect you to be fluent in English.

With excellent collaboration and interaction skills and will, you foster excellent relations with Aalto’s schools, student bodies and other internal and external stakeholders.
