Aalto University School of Business is now looking for

a Database Specialist

to support management and development of public databases. The role of the database specialist is 100% full time employment and a permanent appointment.

Database specialist roles and responsibilities

The role of the database specialist is at is to act as an interface between finance data providers (e.g., WRDS, CRSP, Compustat, Refinitiv, Morningstar Direct, and some proprietary databases) and their users, academic faculty and students preparing B.Sc., M.Sc., and doctoral theses. Responsibilities include keeping up to date on database platforms and their changes, database contract management, data warehouse management, and supporting faculty and students in their research with state of the art methods and software. Database specialist works most closely with faculty and students from the Department of Finance at Aalto University School of Business.

Expecations for the role from an ideal candidate

An ideal candidate for the role of the database specialist is an IT-savvy, service-minded, and a self-driven individual with 2-4 years of relevant experience. A B.Sc. degree is required, a M.Sc. or a doctoral degree is considered as an advantage. Knowledge of database management tools, programming languages, and statistical software (e.g., MS SQL-Server, Python, SAS, and Stata) are considered as merits.

The working language for both roles in English, mastery of Finnish is an advantage. The role can be combined with late stage doctoral studies or early stage postdoctoral research (especially in finance or economics).

What we offer

We offer an intellectually stimulating, yet a relaxed, flexible, and very independent working environment. Pay is subject to qualifications, an indicative monthly range is from 3000 EUR (B.Sc. with limited experience) to 4100 EUR (a highly experienced professional with a doctoral degree).
